I stopped into the town of Wallaceburg community museum , were they have a display for James Lee and his 1878 proto of the Lee Enfield .
It was in Wallaceburg Ont. where James Lee , with help from his brother John , successfully completed the 1878proto and began the Lee Enfield empire.
I took a few photo's , but the rifle is behind a glass case , so some may have abit of glare .
Here's a few picts of what started my incurable Enfielditius

Couldn't see the pics as it went to your log-in page for Photobuckit. You have to copy paste the Url that is listed under the pic.

The museum page is a very interesting read.
Neat stuff! Thanx for sharing. :D

I had no idea about the Lee! Thanks for that, Timberlord.
So, so far we've got the Lee Enfield and the M-1 Garand invented by Canucks! What else?

btw, as Calum mentioned the pics don't work but the museum link is good.

Here's some photos of the proto

The rifle is in a glass case and was kinda tricky to take good photos .
Note the humungous trigger lock and the display case is touch sensitive.

... this might be a good summer familly trip...
Good call on that!
Hey, I noticed something on the museum's Lee-Enfield page that notes BSA only produced LE's from 1939-1942. I've got a BSA from 1917. Where does that fit in?
Also, they say "British Small Arms" not "Birmingham"...
Somebody in the know should let them know, you know? :D

BSA were producing Lee Metfeilds so they were producing from the 1890's to the close of SMLE production in about 1944. However BSA Shirly produced the #4 mk1/2 so that contuined after WW2!
