Jamming norinco cq 14.5

I had the same problem. the gas rings were too loose almost like they were worn out. I replaced them with the McFarlane ring. easy way to test the rings is when you slide the bolt in the carrier there should be a slight tension and you can almost feel the gas rings scraping the inside of the carrier that's how you know you are getting a seal. and yes the little notches should all be at different angles. not lined up so they leave a gap.

Problem : Failure to eject. Common cause : -Gaps in the bolt rings not staggered. Corrective action : Stagger the ring gaps.

Rifle will still function with the gaps lined up....try it next time you are at the range.
Could you imagine the odd chance during a fire fight and oops....they lined up and the rifle ####s the bed.....its not that critical.

I'm sure it can still function, however Colt Canada says it is a common cause for a fail to eject.

Myth. I wish people wouldn't repeat silly stuff like that.

Tell you what, since Colt Canada's credentials are getting the better of the argument so far, I'll concede the point if you submit this complaint to them to have their technicians change their C7/C8 user manual.

no its not a myth. read a book.

It is a myth. Lot's of myths written down in books ;)

Look at the gas rings through the vent holes in the bolt.

If your gun is not running right because you have your gaps lined up, there is something else seriously F'ed up with your gun.

There is a mod here that is a Colt Canada Armourer. I would be curious to hear his opinion on the matter.

It's a myth.

Cheap gas rings have burrs might alingn themselves - but still won't cause issues.

We fire 30 round bursts out of carbines with only one gas ring installed and they never stop.

Try staggering them, mark them with paint and fire a round look at the rings and they have all moved.

If it makes you feel better and only takes a second to stagger them, what's the harm? No big need though.

As an addition to that

You might want to point out that the CC documentation follows Mil guidelines and they do things because they were always done that way. The manual still recommends CLP. Just saying.

Excellent! CC is the center of excellence for small arms for the CF. If their own reference is wrong, they are in a unique position to fix it.

We make changes all the time on infantry doctrine and other references at the TC so I don't buy the "we always have done it that way" excuse.

I have OVER 12000 rds through my norinco and NOT ONE failure! And no my rings gaps where never keep lined up lol
BTW she eats all ammo brands no prob

Wow... I never thought I'd hear someone say their Nornico has never jammed. I have used a few at the local range and a couple friends own them. They have all jammed frequently, one to the point of a frustrated owner having a mini meltdown and leaving the range.

Most likely it's something simple mags are always an issue. Cheap metal one could have a slightly bent feed lip which could cause problems. Easy fix. Buy a pmag. With ars it's always something simple. You also may have got a lemon. I got the NorC 10.5 I ride it hard and put it away wet. Almost never clean it. And my gun has had zero failures. Not even a dud primer.

Well, hold on to your hat because I've put about 1500 rounds of factory ammo and reloads through my 14.5"
Norc.... and not a single failure to eject, to feed or fire. Only a couple times the bolt did not lock open on the last round with the same crappy norc mag.

Op, I hope you get that problem fixed and get to enjoy your rifle like I do mine.

wow! that's nice. I wonder why they put them on the gun then? if they do nothing I think I will just take mine out. I mean whats the point right? thanks for the info!

We actually tried a few rifles with only one gas ring on each bolt. The rifles still functionned.
