Janssen Sons & Co ??? Old safe queen.

I rescued this old double barrel from the smelter a few years back when a friend didn't want to bother registering it (he was headed to the police station to surrender it). It has been in the safe since then, but now space is getting tight in there. Can anyone give me a little history lesson on this thing & let me know if it's worth anything in the current condition (firing pins removed, hammers / triggers work fine, action is loose - - has ~ 1/32" of play in it & the locking lug shows wear on it) ?

If nothing else, this thing would look cool on the wall at the hunting camp! Do I need to 'de-register' it to display it w/o a trigger gaurd?
 
Myself, I would bring it back to life and shoot black or Pyrodex out of it!

The Jannsens, from what I can remember, were belgian guns that were not highly expensive, but one of the brands that swarmed out of Belgium in the early 20th century.
it is inoperable without the firing pins, so I would think that you could display it like that, but I am not a lawyer, so don't take that as gospel!:D

If your Janssen Sons and Company shotgun says " FINE DAMASCUS FINISH" on the top of the barrels it probably has solid steel barrels but short chambers for old roll crimped shot shells. The chambers can be lengthened, but light loads should be used. This can be done easily when the gunsmith tightens the action up, if you decide to go that route. It seems a shame to not use an old shotgun , if it can be used. A lot of old shotguns are being used in COWBOY ACTION shooting, with black powder or light loads.

2 1/2" load data is also readily available, and the gear to shorten hulls as well, all from Will Bilozir of Bbismuth reloading supplies

I have fixed up 2 or 3 of these ,
The main thing is what is the wood like at
the frame, good and solid, and if bores are decent,
it could be cleaned up.
If the wood has cracks , forget it.
firing pins are simple.
It will be a 2 1/2" camber unless it was cut
longer years ago.
Many of these where shot for years with 2 3/4" shells-
not a good idea,
It can be tighted up with a new pin usally, if you are handy
would not be worth it if you have to pay a gun smith.
Does't matter if the firing pins are in it or not
as far as the registation goes- is still a gun.
no big deal if you register it.
