Happened to catch a rerun of "Pearl Harbor" recently.

What type of MG did the Japanese two-seater dive bombers and torpedo planes have as rear facing armament? In the movie they look like Browning air cooled .30's.
Is that authentic? Did they have a copy of the Browning, licenced or otherwise?

Dive bomber was Aichi D3A (Val)
Two 7.7mm type 97 MGs firing forward and one 7.7mm type 92 HMG in back.

Film used converted American Harvard T-6s for the Val and the Zero.

Pear Harbor, the Love story. ;) Got to see Tora Tora Tora.

Grizz

Pearl was just background for those angst ridden lovers, eh. That fellow sure got around didn't he. Battle of Britain, Pearl Harbour, Dolittle Raid. God he was one busy boy. When he took the little nurse night flying in the P 40 sitting in his lap I gagged but when he topped it off with a roll I lost it. What a disappointment in so many ways. Tora, Tora, Tora was a far better production.

Thanks to those with the requested info - and the movie critics.

I found "Tora, Tora, Tora" to be a bore. I was under no illusion that "Pearl Harbor" was anything but a period love story with the raid as a back drop. I still enjoyed the aircraft and even the CGI.
