Japanese Winchesters any good??

was looking to buy a new lever gun and read some articals about how they were made in japan kinda a turn off.

At one time Brownings were made in Japan,
and at least some Weatherbys(Howa) are, today.
I haven't heard of problems with these fireams, but not sure.
Not like it's a Nork from China, though.:)

I own a 92 Davidsons Special in 32-20 takedown model. The rifle is superbly built to amazing tolerances and fit and finish. My original Marlin and pre-64 94 do not compare. Traditionalists don't like the rebounding hammer and tang safety. The rebounder is easily modified. I love the tang safety.

Mine functions without modification flawlessly and is a real hoot to carry. I highly recommend one.

Generally speaking, the Japanese build good stuff. The horror stories associated with some of the recent production Marlins are more of a turnoff to me.

Various Italian makers seem to have no problem selling lots of leverguns, despite not being made in the US.

If the fact that being made in Japan is a turn off, then yes, you will likely be unhappy with the newer Winchesters manufactured there.

However, if precise machining, excellent blueing, beautiful wood and all around superior fit and finish is what you are looking for, then you may well find that the new Miroku made Wincheters to be the best made in a long time.

The few that I have handled are superior to even the pre-64 model 94's

Quality of the Japanese making Browning products were more than excellent. I would say you're good to buy the Winchester.

A fellow in the local trap club has a 20gauge Japanese-made Winchester model 12 which is outstanding. One of the nicest, smoothest model 12 shotguns I have ever seen. And I have seen quite a few of them.
