Japanese Winchesters any good??

To some it's still trying to shake the "Pearl Harbour" era image.

I'm not old enough to remember Pearl Harbour - but I am old enough to remember Christmas toys that would break the day of - the cheap cars that would turn into a pile of rust in your driveway in a year - the electronics that were cheaply made and 'blew up' if you pushed them too hard.

Japan really turned us into a throwaway society because they when they broke ppl would simply throw them away cause the new, next bestest thing was here and cheaper.

To be honest these things go in cycles Japan, Hong Kong, Korea now China - Capitalism at it's worst - but for the countries involved the consumer has a long memory...

I have an Winchester 1886 from Japan. Love it and will buy others as soon as I can afford it.
We have all seen what has happened to the Marlin rifle as far as Q C issues are concerned. No such problems with the Japanese. I would love to see the Japanese take over Marlin, at least the sights would get put on straight!

Generally speaking, the Japanese build good stuff. The horror stories associated with some of the recent production Marlins are more of a turnoff to me..

FWIW - I had a Marlin 1894 in 44mag - it broke with less than 100 rounds thru it - I traded it in for a Winchester 1892 44mag.

Truth be told - if I had of known it was made in Japan - I would have moved on to something else. Now that I have it - I will continue to use it - and if it breaks - I will certainly let you know...

Sorry - long memory

Pride of workmanship. There's no substitute for it. You can build quality and build more & more as the world beats a path to your door, or you can build cheap and build less and less as the world goes somewhere else.

Just ask Detroit.

If they build there guns like when they did the Winchester 52's in the 1990's, I would not hesitate to buy one, great quality back then, and am sure they would be equivelent nowadays, DZ!

Wow the japanese have a reputation for making some of the most high quality cars, electronics and damn near everything in the world and we get this thread?

Japanese men use to DIE working themselves to death to get things absolutely samurai perfect.

Someone seriuosly needs to shake the pearl harbour mentality if they are scared of the japanese for whatever reason. Either that or stop living under a rock for the past 30 years. The japanese literally set the quality standard for every product they ever produced, from Tv's to automobiles...

japan is top for craftsman ship.im looking at howa for my next purchase... for just that reason :)
pearl harbour? you gotta b kidding...

I own/have owned three different leverguns made in the Miroku factory in Japan for Browning and Winchester. The fit and finish is excellent. If there is someone else making a better quality levergun today, I do not know of them (although those Uberti leverguns are a close second).

I don't believe that Japanese guns are better built then American guns, right now Marlin has a lot of problems to figure out, and until they do the Japchesters may be best. Remember that they cost double of what 2 year old Marlins(the good ones) cost, or what used U.S. made '94 costs. Japan can't touch the quality of some of the more expensive brands of US produced guns like, C. Sharps, Shiloh Sharps, CPA, Cooper, Kimber, Dakota, etc......Weatherby moved Mark 5 production out of Japan because they could be made nicer here.

The funny thing, is most of those toyotas are probably made in Canada, & USA (maybe Mexico).

So now you are blaming the workers? That's like blaming the Soldiers cause the General lost the war...

On a side note ppl expect to be rewarded for quality work, and should expect lose business for shoddy work

just sayn...

I have been checking out the Winchesters that have been going through the gun shop over the last year and have to say that they are very impressive. The bluing, fit and finish and the wood have all been very good.

To the guy whining about Toyota cars. Toyota doesn't make guns. Apples and oranges.

I think China's poor reputation for quality rubs off on the Japanese sometimes.
