FYI, from the Jard ETA thread -> https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/2154680-Jard-J180-eta:

Finally, the Jard J180 kits have cleared customs and are in house at Sylvestre! When I called today, they said they had received the shipment on Friday. They will do some QC testing of the shipment during the week, and should have them ready for sale at the end of this week or early next week. Only the smaller bolt face kit will be available this run, meaning the build kits can be used to make rifles of the following calibre:

Here's a consolidation of initial feedback and pictures from the sale notification thread for Jard J180 Build Kits on the Sylvestre sub-forum ->

it has last round hold open.

I assembled the J180 on last night, the only piece I need yet is my Magpul stock with cheek riser (on order). I put my XCaliber 204 barrel on, this barrel was a tack driver on my MDI SLR, this weekend I will try the loads that worked good with that barrel on the MDI. The finish is not as nice as the MDI but is a big improvement from the J48s I have owned.
The design of the J180 seems a lot better, but we will see how it holds up, the week spot on the j48 was the timing plate that sat in the bolt carrier and ran on the top of the receiver, the curve on the timing plate was not correct and it wore badly on the upper receiver. The J180 uses a bigger timing pin that runs in a slot in the side of the receiver, the timing pin comes out of the bolt and is more like the size of the pin used in a AR15. the size of the pin and slot on the J180 will hopefully solve the problems that the J48 had with timing. Another big improvement over the J48 is the way the charge handle is held in by the operating rods. It is real nice to dissemble and clean, I wish the trigger housing was one piece VS the 2 piece that they are using on the J180 now. The only fault I found on mine is that if the safety is on and you try pulling the bolt back you will jam up the bolt, hammer and safety and will have to remove lower and flip hammer back with your thumb.

...it came with basic pistol grip but I modded a magpul to fit.

Well i loaded up 50 rounds and went to see how the J180 would shot. it all worked good, sighted it in and it shot .5" 3 shot groups @ 100y. the next thing i need to do is clean up the trigger, it is one of the nicest out of box black gun triger at 3.75 pounds, but is long. so far so good pics coming.

Reddit Member The_Crover on r/CanadaGuns / posted on the Canada Guns Talk Show YouTube channel to note that A2 stocks are incompatible Jard J180. I will phone Sylvestre on Monday to see if Jard has any thoughts on how to address this. Any ideas from the 3D printing community how to make this work?

The Crover has created a build thread on the Sylvestre sub forum, and reported the following:

Just started building my Jard J180 receiver and found a few issues already.

There is no way to install an A1/A2 stock on this receiver, as the geometry of the receiver differs from an AR-15's lower. The dimple the stock would fit into on an AR lower to prevent rotation does not exist in the J180 receiver or trigger pack.

This will also impede instalation of sling loop plates commonly used with carbine buffer tubes. It seems the only stock options that will work with the J180 are collapsible stocks.

The barrel nut instalation is also difficult. Geissele reaction rods do not fit into the receiver as the stock tube channel is lower on the receiver than on the AR-15. There is about 1 cm difference between the center of the stock axis and the barrel axis. Magpul BEV block does not fit into the receiver, so the barrel extension locking lugs cannot be engaged from the inside of the receiver.

My first attempt to tighten the barrel nut of a BCM MCMR handguard involved clamping the barrel on a vice with wood blocks to prevent marring the finish. I was unable to tighten the nut using my torque wrench to BCM spec of 40 ft/lb without the barrel slipping in the wood blocks. The only way I managed to secure the upper was using some thick fabric wrapped around the upper itself to prevent marring, and then clamping the upper lightly near the barrel using the vice. I was then able to tighten the barrel nut to 40 ft/lb.

Does anyone have an A2 stock, the MRA A2 end plate adapter for their Renegade/Maverick, and a Jard J180 build kit to see if the plate will work for then J180? It says it is proprietary to the MRA designs, but I wonder if it may still work on the J180.

I phoned Sylvestre, and they had run into the same issue as the Crover with another customer. The customer really loved the A2 stock, and came up with a permanent solution. The customer tightened the buffer tube to the maximum, and then used epoxy to permanently attach the A2 stock to the buffer tube.

I passed along the suggestion of the MRA A2 end plate adapter to them, and they plan on ordering one to test with the J180. In the meantime, they will note the current A2 incompatibility on the J180 web listing when it is created.

Hey Ustauk, you've put loads of very useful information out about the J180, out of curiosity what's the motivation? Are you quite passionate about this particular rifle or by chance in a very good position to talk about it?

I am in a similar position to the latter with the WK180C.

I am an enthusiast for information about modular rifles of all kinds, including the SBI LPC, Lynx lower and soon upper, the Kodiak WK180-C, Wolverine WS/X MCR, MRA Renegade/Maverick, and the Jard J180. I find the J180s true direct impingement operation fascinating in particular, and am looking forward to see how it performs long term against the 180 piston designs. I'm also very enthusiastic about the SBI direct impingement BCG, and am looking forward to how they function in their complete, non-"brick like" Lynx complete firearms.

I have one of those old norinco np-20 pistols. This looks like one to me. Or a high-point pistol. Awkwardly chunky. I like the idea, but I’d like something a little more svelte…..
