Jaw saver Stag-10 .308 ???

I would shoot that set up without the rifle.
Think about it:
- you keep the low rings just the way they are
- you save on ammo costs
- recoil becomes almost non-existent.

Win, win, win in my books.

Well the OP does state that he has thousands of Milsurp to shoot so a solution to shoot should be found.

One possible solution would be to install a riser rail with a 20 minute rail on top. With extra high rings installed one might eliminate cheek/jaw weld entirely.

This would help to mitigate or eliminate the painfull blows to jaw/face.

A .556 adaptor could also be installed with the existing configuration.

Or just use higher rings...

And what 5.56 conversion is there for a Stag 10?!
 
Why not just add a maxi pad to the side of the stock??
Cost like maybe a buck.

Or better yet get a used one, it should be free .. :)
 
I vote rail riser if you don’t want to change the “set-up”. To raise those medium height Burris XTR rings to a ~1.5” (top of rail to ring centre line) all you need is 1/2” riser block or a solid riser. Just unscrew the rings, screw on the riser to the rail and install the rings to the riser. Take to range and check zero... easy-peasy.
 
I don’t think he’s talking about the height of the scope, just something to cushion the stock.
 
Nothing is going to make you happy as long as you're mashing your face into the stock to get your head low enough to see through that optic setup. Recognizing it's wrong and saying you want to keep it the way it is because it seems to work well enough is like saying you want to drive around with flat tires because that's how you've always done it and it's good enough.

Get that scope up to a proper height with a cantilever mount or a proper set of rings, and you'll be 10x more comfortable shooting it, and won't be abused by any recoil, which should be pretty minor in a semi-auto .308 anyway. Put in some prep work and your shooting experience will be much more pleasant

Mine pops them all into a neat little pile 7 feet right and 1 foot behind. The only other gun I have had eject so nice and neatly is a WK-180C.
 
Get the Limbsaver for the stock, it will help (a bit), a muzzle break will also help a bit. But like almost everyone else has said, get new mounts, also a riser may not be the best idea either - you are adding in another point that (if it comes loose) will impact they way your rifle is shooting. There is also likely a Magpul clip on cheek riser that will fit your stock as well, so you can continue to get a snugged up cheekweld if that's what you are still after.
