JB Weld as an epoxy?

I am putting in a recessed 'nut' into a butt stock to replace some worn out wood holes for the butt pad.

Would JB do the trick and hold the stand off in place? (It's what I have.)

It won't expand as it cures and possibly split the wood?

That was my concern. I guess I wasn't very clear on that.

I've used it, not a problem.

I dont think I'll ever be able to remove that screw again

JB Weld is dimensionally stable, that's one of it's selling features, so it shouldn't expand.

Another really good product is Loctite thread and spline repair.

JB Weld is a metal-filled epoxy. It's fabulous stuff

JB Weld is a great product with many uses...

but,..if you're going to use it for bedding compound be sure you use a very good release agent...a friend of mine turned a brand new 700 Classic stock into fancy firewood while trying to remove an action that had been bedded with good old JB......then it was time for the other JB.......Jim Beam.....

Toothpicks work fantastic for this, as does 0000 steel wool around the threads. But I want a permanent fix.
