JB Weld for bedding compound ... Yes or no?

Marine Tex you usually find at boat stores or repair shops.

Acklands for Devcon.

Most any hardware store carries JB Weld.

I have used JB Weld on my F-Class guns with no ill effects.

No issues here with JB. It does cure a little softer but this has not been an issue as it deals with way to much surface area to damage it. It is thinner and will continue to flow for quite a while after mixed especially where its applied thick. I buy the bigger tubes at Peavey Mart for $17, that will do quite a bit of bedding. That's not to say Devcon or Marine Tex isn't better but JB weld will yield the same results with a little more fuss when applying it. The other big plus is its mixed 50/50 which is pretty hard to f**k up! Use what you want, the three mentioned all work.

Marine-tex is the go to bedding compound of choice of a close friend of mine, and he has been reaching pretty far out recently with good results. Marine tex will do the job.

Anyone ever use ceramic belzona? This stuff is incredible. Its meant for serious business. I have not tried it for bedding but I use it at work occasionally to repair engine components, including cylinder bores, pinholed liners, spun bearing journals ect ect.

I keep some cold weld around cos it sets up very quickly and is similar in strength to JB. The surface is also much harder, its great for small repairs.

I bought devcon steel putty from acklands grainger but it was pretty expensive. I think it was like 70 bucks.

I did one rifle with it so far and I think it will do quite a few more.

I did a savage F-TR, worked well.

I've been using Birchwood Casey gunstock wax as release agent with JB weld and it works excellent. Same deal as kiwi, just apply a thin coat and buff it down till the steel appears wet with no buildup. It dries and looks as though its not there, releases great and leaves a nice precise impression.

Paste wax or neutral shoe polish as pointed out. The WD40 is to wet your q-tips with to clean up the excess epoxy that squeezes out.

I use neural Kiwi polish. Brake cleaner works very well to clean up the messy stuff.

I used black without an issue. Neutral is ultra hard to find. I want some for my shoes too and still can't find it.

It's amazing how well the stuff works. I was nervous until it popped out after a wack or two of the mallet.

What's a good release agent if you're using JB weld? Any tips/DIY with bedding an accustock?

Any Carnauba wax..... I use Mother's paste wax.

Apply like you would if you were waxing a car.... Let it dry up and buff it off with paper towel.

This will give you an almost 0 tolerance fit when done as there is only a few microns of wax actually left on the action.
