...okay so now i'm stuck...i need advice on husqvarna 1600's in 30-06...

...i have never gotten my son to show interest in hunting...i have a very skillful hunter in one of my daughters but not my son...until this christmas

...i bought both sons-in-laws le no 4's for gifts this year...scoured them...rebuilt some parts...churchill sporters...and worked up some loads...they came here and reloaded a whack of ammo and they are now really happy with their rifles

...my son told me many years ago to not buy him any guns so i took him at his word...now that he's out on his own he's hinted that he might want to go hunting with me some time...and then at christmas he said that he was upset that i bought rifles for his brothers-n-law but not him...you could have knocked me over with a feather (i bought his sister a .308 a decade ago)

...here's the thing

...any gun's a personal choice...it needs to fit and be of the right calibre

...i want a rifle of high quality but i'm not buying him a new rifle...he works and can do that on his own

...so i'm thinking a classic...a le would be fine but he works sometimes in the bc interior and i think something with a bit more punch might be better...'06 can be loaded light...but i like heavy bullets and a 30-06 in a 220 grain slug is pretty formidable

...so what about husky 1600's...that's my top limit and it's a classic and something to hang on to the even if it doesn't fit the best so may serve him well for now

...any problems with these? ...parts available? ..accuracy? ...reliability?

...in the end jealously can be a good thing i guess :)

(or perhaps a 9.3 x 57 is good enough in big bear country for defence? ...i already reload for that)

I have one. It's accurate and light. However the trigger is very heavy and not adjustable. Maybe it's an easy fix. Anyone?

Get a nice husky from tradex in 9.3x62 and never look back..... If you need help, I can go hand pick the rifle for you, they are local to me.....

This. Unless your son is new to shooting. Even the 3006 might be too much recoil for a new shooter. I know it would have been too much for me, but I'm not a particularly big guy. I started on 22s and an sks then went to a 270.

Congratulations on getting your son interested in shooting. Maybe not jealous, it just seems to take them a while to figure out what they like nowadays.
Although my lad likes shooting and duck hunting, I have had to accept that not all boys are born mad keen on the exact same interests as their dad. ;)
Maybe its the 30 plus year age gap.

...thanks

...oh i accepted that he did not want to hunt and never said anything to him about it...so it's rather a surprise and he brought it up about his in-laws, who are very eager to hunt...and he has been given other outdoor items that are just as nice as guns...he enjoys the outdoors but just isn't much of a woodsman...i have pack animals and do the backcountry, while he stays home and snowboards...

...about $400 is my top $...i figured i could find a husky for that

...i have 9.3 x 57 husky that i have not yet reloaded for...was hoping to get him something he could buy ammo commercially at any gas station...i can load down the first 06 ammo for him to get used to the calibre and he has shot my rifles from time to time so it's not all new to him...he was raised on a 243...

...i was just wondering about the reliability and accuracy of the huskies and in particular the 1600's

thanks
