Okay...looking to get my first 9mm.

So far I have my eye on a IWI Jericho 941 or a Browning Hi Power.

I have read a lot of good reviews on-line about both.....

...suggestions/opinions??

Thanks!

Would you rather have DA or SA? You should answer that first.

But the correct answer is BHP. The only handgun that I will never sell. Ever.

A what compared to the finest semi-automatic handgun, designed by Mr Browning himself 2 decades after giving Colt the franchise on the 1911.

I have to say that i shot both. the browning hi power is nice but over priced i feel. i used the baby eagle and couldn't believe the results of how well it shoots. I like my handguns a little on the heavy side and the beagle was very nice to shoot and i liked the sights on it better than the HiPower. HiPower is a great gun but i am giving the IWI the vote from my experience. The double action on it was nice as well and the ergos fit great for a small hand guy like me.

Don't forget the P226. Mine is awesome.

The BHP will likely have a better selection of holsters. In fact, many 1911 holsters will work with it.

Jericho is a real tank of a gun and shoots really nice and comfortable like. I don't really like the feel of the hipower as much for my hand, but I think I shoot better with it than my IWI. Its a hard call. If your on a budget get the jericho, if your not.......get both :)

Certainly there are very good guns that don't cost as much. The Hi-Power is a classic and the build quality and finish of the FN/Browning products are very good, so they command a a premium that isn't worth it to everyone and that carries on into the used market. But if you are patient a second-hand example in nice condition can be found for a reasonable price.

This will be a range pistol - not sure if I'll be needing a holster. I have read that holsters for the Jericho are few...

"...if I'll be needing a holster..." More of an "I want one." thing than an "I need one.". In any case, buy the one that fits your hand best.
Partial to the BHP myself. Finding aftermarket grips, magazines, etc will be easier for a BHP.

Shameless product placement:

I've fired the BHP and owned a beagle 9mm. Of the two, the Baby Eagle is superior in almost every way. It's better ergonomically, it has a double action trigger, the trigger is smoother, the gun is more accurate due to the rifling (can't / shouldn't shoot cast reloads), the sights are better. It also costs about $250-$300 less.

I was facing this exact same decision about a year ago. I loved the beagle, but couldn't stand only being able to shoot jacketed bullets. The slide safety annoyed me to no end, and I had to use an Uncle Mike's fabric holster, because the only other thing that would work was a cz75 product, and it was $125. I looked at the BHP, which is why I said that I fired one, and had a friend take me out. I put about 500 rounds down the pipe over 2 months, while testing other pistols. In the end I picked up a CZ75 SP-01 Tactical, because it was a lot like the baby eagle.

The downside to the Baby Eagle:

The finish sucks, stuff comes 'loose' on it a lot. Most notably the rear sights and the grips. The safety is on the slide, which is just absolute crap. You can get one that's not on the slide I believe though.

Here are the upsides to the BHP:

They've been around forever so everyone will tell you they're awesome.

If I were you I'd expand my decision from BHP vs Beagle to:

CZ, BHP, or IWI

Ultimately I think you'll end up with a CZ, as the price of an SP-01 is still less than the BHP and the gun is better in every single aspect. it even has the same look/feel/handling and weight.
