I m getting a .338 lapua built and am putting a jewell trigger in it but lately i ve had some friends say they aren t as good as they say and to go with the shilen triggers any one have any experience with the two

As for triggers, the Jewell is a great trigger the Shillen is a very good trigger but not in the same league as the Jewell, I have one on my Dakota and it is OK. If you will need a safety then most of the very light pull triggers don't have one. Timmney triggers has a new trigger out for tact rifles this might be a great trigger that falls between the Jewell and the Shillen, it has some nice features, I havent used one yet but Timmney's have been good triggers for me.

I didn't know Nesika had an action big enough for the Lapua, I have owned a few 338 Lapua's from as far back as 92. They are great caliber but not made for everyone. it takes alot of practise to become proficient.
Whose barrel and stock model are you using?

Well from my experience and in the circles I walk, the Jewell is second to none. (I own two of them....excellent taste btw), I would go Jewell.

using a shilen contour 10 select match stainless barrel with a 10"twist and a mcmillan a4 stock the model m is the only action that has the .590 bolt face the only problem is that the a4 only accomidates the 1.350 reciever and i would like to get the 1.470 reciever but you have to go to a bench rest stock and i dont want that any other suggestions for a stock that would acommidate the larger reciever diameter
 
The Jewell is a safe trigger, even at extremely low pull wieght (2oz-), it can not be "jarred" off set and it can be had with a safety(conventional or in the trigger bow). This is because it is a 4 fulcrum system, as apposed to the Shilen/Rem. 2 fulcrum set-up.

Accept no substitutes.....JMHO

You are on the right track with the reciever, there is no substitute for mass in actions, period. Your choice in stocks may be the determining factor in your action choice! I would try and research your options on available stocks before commiting to the action, perhaps a laminated stock by others is an option. The 338 Lapua will be pushed to the limit and having the extra mass will add to your durability.
One more thing try and go to 28" at least with the barrel length, you will use it all when burning slow burning powders.

im going with the 30 inch barrel so it will give me 29" of shooting barrel minumum
plus a quick discharge brake by holland what stocks would you suggest
 
Try Lone Wolf. They manufacture a variety of stocks. Granted it wouldn't be cheap, but it is certainly one option. When I have time to post some pictures I will. I have two samples of theirs and they seem well made and heavy duty.

Here is a link to one of them - item L . Really designed for .50 cal long range bench shooting but can accommodate smaller actions.

The best people to answer your question is Nesika, they know which stocks fits their actions, I would certainly ask them first. From what I understand Dakota and Nesika are one company now. Dakota makes one of the best stock duplicating machines on the market, they might be able to inlet a laminated blank for you, ask them. By the way good choice on the barrel length. I would also ask PGW Steve if he could help you out with the A4 stock inlet since McMillan will also sell you the unlitted blank.

I'm sure we have some A4/3/2 stocks here. I'll take a peak and find out how wide they are when I have a few free minutes.
 
Robertson composites right in ottawa....Best stuff money can buy and prices on par with mcmilllans, better quailty,less wait time, and they will do customs on demand..check them out i'm to hosed to give you a link but you can find them with google easy
 
I personally feel that the Jewel triggers, while very nice, are somewhat overrated. They are mostly well made but there were some problems with sear dimensions for a while. Apparently a sub-contractor problem. Many users seem to like their Jewel triggers set up with considerable creep. It is very smooth creep however.
The shilen trigger (the match trigger, that is) is a 3 lever design. The same is true of the remington and Hart 2 oz triggers. Neither the Shilen or the remington has a safety while Jewel does make one with a safety. I made a few Remington 3 lever conversions with safeties but was never really happy with the way they worked so I quit doing them. If I were to do this today, I would build a bolt sleeve safety to use with the 2 oz. triggers. I'll not be doing this any time soon however!
I still think the Canjar in it's heyday was as good a trigger as has been made but have not seen a current example if such is even available. Regards, Bill.
 
"...a .338 lapua built..." For what? 100 new cases runs $162.99US. $66.99US per 20 loaded. Both from Midway.
"...nesika model m tactical..." There's no such thing as a 'tactical' receiver.
Mind you, it's not my money.
 
changed my mind going with the a5 it will take the 1.470 reciever and the blind tang also going with a krieger barrel and a 1:9 twist 30" long
any thoughts
action was ordered today
