Hi guys,

The wife inherited a little youth stocked rifle from her deceased Uncle, and it is marked JGA Zella-Mehlis (Which I have learned is Anshuetz?), with no other legible markings other than proofs on the breach end of the barrel.

It is single shot, manually cocked, a la Cooey.

It seems, however, to be missing a part inside the receiver. I have tried to attach an image... It seems like there should be some piece filling the lower half of the chamber, about 2mm in length from front to back, that would also work as some sort of ejector?

I took the rifle to Dlask a couple of years ago, and they said they might be able to manufacture something for an estimated $400.... I declined....

ANyway: Would anyone have ANY idea where to go to try to track down a part for this? I have looked at the Anshuetz webiste, and can't find anything close. I am estimating that this rifle would have been manufactured prior to the 1950's, based on family anecdote.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Neal

That is a half moon extractor/ejector that Anschutz used in some of their cheaper rifles. The CIL model 111 (also by Anschutz) used this system and your setup looks very similar. Imagine a half washer silver soldered to a bar that fits in the slot in the receiver bottom and is held up by the trigger/sear spring, with a vertical projection at the rear of said bar that rides in the race cut into the underside of the bolt. The race portion perpendicular to the axis of the bolt permits rotation, the forward end of the race engages the aforementioned hook projection after some rearward travel. A transverse projection on the underside of the bar stamping is to retain the ejector in the receiver but since this projection is flimsy at the outset, and because there is a bit of upward "kick" to the extractor this projection is often missing, thus allowing the piece to fall out when the bolt is removed.
I can't suggest a part source to you but should you not be able to find a replacement then making the part would not be out of reach for the dedicated hobbiest.

THAT is actually one of the more succint descriptions I have ever read - Thankyou! I can now actually visualize how that would work.

Glad you were able to wade through it. If you are unable to source the part and wish to tackle a fabrication yourself, an exchange of pertinent measurements as well as pics of the unit from my rifle might help you along. Just PM me when the time comes.
Glad to help.
