It seems JGS has for the time being stopped shipping to us Canucks , apparently has to do with ITAR and state department I sure hope this doesn't become a problem with the other tool makers .

Just spoke to them and no time frame as to when things will be back to normal .

I haven't read the complete executive order, but the NRA brief on it seems to indicate that it targets gunsmiths, & labels them as 'manufacturers' if they do even minor firearm mods, so they have to cough up $2k+ to the State Dept DDTC in registration fees.
It doesn't say anything about exporters of tools. Were you trying to buy JGS tools like reamers, or ammo components like their shotgun wads? Ammo & components are ITAR controlled.

I was just wondering out loud. I read about it on another forum. Fella was mentioning an older machinist he knew that hand made odd sized screws for pre 1890 rifles and how he wouldn't be able to afford the license to continue. Saw OP's post and wondered if the problems were related.

The friggin US has become such a problem I am glad to be at the end of my career. It was so good through the 60's for 40 years...

This is what happens when a nation becomes a police state. I shake my head when I see how many law enforcement levels they have down there. The cost is going to break them eventually.

Dennis, I agree totally. I also am glad to be finished and not trying to start. The amazing thing is, most Americans don't realize what has been happening; just as they don't see the threat posed by Homeland security.
Bearhunter, They are already broke and keep right on borrowing.

They are way beyond broke, Either Hillary or Trump will put the final nail in the coffin. ;)

I've been dragging my heels on a couple of projects, that I'll need a couple of chamber reamers for.
'Spose I'd best get round to it before the U.S. election...

The US gets paid a commission by the world to allow its currency to be used as the FIAT currency of world trade. They took over after this practice ruined the Japanese economy in a similar manner. The practice of using the US dollar for the primary trading currency garners the US a small percentage of every transaction. This is a nasty situation. What should have been a golden fleece turned into a massive sinkhole that made a lot of US primary families extremely wealthy as well as a few major corporations extremely influential and powerful on the world scene.

It also made the politicians that were overlooking the health of the US economy extremely lazy. They no longer worried about where the money to pay down the debt would be coming from. The payments for their currency use and over inflation because of its status was at one time enough to make up the payments incurred by the run away spending by US politicians. That ability to pay has dwindled since the Iraq war.

There is a theory going around, with some credible input from world financiers, that the main reason for the Iraq war was to stop Iraq from going back onto the GOLD standard and therefore bypassing the FIAT currency trade lines. By using gold, they were going to be using REAL value instead of mushy paper which was only valuable if everyone agreed it was.

When the Russians accepted payment for their oil and natural gas from the Chinese in Renmimbi it shocked and shook the financial world and was another nail in the coffin of the US economy. Many corporations left the US because of this occurrence. For some reason, the Russo/Chicom deal fell through and it is only partially in effect.

Rumor on the Forex has it that the world financiers pointed out the rules of trade to the Chinese and alluded to making the Chinese currency the FIAT currency of the world and allowing the US economy to get back to a normal footing and value. IMHO this would make the depression of the 1930s look like boomtimes. The whole political/financial power structure would be changed overnight in the US and likely their military would be cut back to the lowest levels in its history. The consequences would be catastrophic to many parts of the world.

Wheels within wheels with smoke and mirrors.

Although unfortunate the US is turning into such an insanely over regulated country, destroying its small businesses in many ways, it does give the opportunity for Canadian companies to make it here.

Meanwhile ISIS/terrorists have M-16's and other US made military weapons...

While JGS is unable to ship to Canada, PTG and Manson are still able to ship to Canada.
I did not check with Clymer.

Yes, they captured those from the Iraqis. They also have Russian/Chinese/British/French/South African/ Italian and many ex com bloc built weapons from small arms to artillery, soft skin vehicles, tanks and even aircraft. A lot of it they don't have anyone that knows how to use it.
