Someone on another forums said, you never underpay with Joe Salter. He is in the US, has a Cape Breton address (I think), buys in Canada and US.

Joe buys on both sides of the boader. He is never cheap and the descriptions, well you should know what you are buying, they are not always accurate.

There was a bit of a tempest in a teapot a little while back, when his outfit refused to ship antiques across the border to Canada.

May or may not have been straightened out or worked around, but it did not raise my opinion of a guy that would quite happily round up as many guns as he can, to ship stateside. As that IS what he is in the business of, it rang a lot hollow that the refusal to ship antiques was due to increasingly complex regulations for border crossings, or some similar drivel.

What I have seen, surfing his site, was top end prices, on mid range product, mostly. He does get some good stuff onto his site, but prices it accordinly.

Kinda makes a guy wonder what goodies he has stashed away or sold on, that never make it to the site!:D

Cheers
Trev

I have purchased one firearm from his website. I had to have it sent to Leroy's in Montana so they would do the export permit, but I was informed of that from the outset. When the gun arrived, it was as described and I was happy. As mentioned by others, however, a lot of nice Winchesters have been rounded up here in Canada and shipped south, and Joe is a major player in that mass exodus.

Buys everything he can of Canadian history and takes it south of the border and then won't ship anything back here no matter if you have the $$$$ or not.

bingo...Wow, So there it is, high priced, mass exodus from Canada. We are the milking ground.. Suckers...

:jerkit:

The guy is in business, so why should he not let the market dictate where he sells?

He sells Canadian stuff (our heritage?) to the highest bidder, which is usually south of the border (the US) and that offends us.

He sells "Winchesters" which is US stuff (their heritage?) back to the US and that offends us too.

I agree with Andy
I bought a s**tload of American guns from the USA some with serious history one Apache Reservation 1875 Remington ect.
Lots of us Buy Antiques with USA history from the USA.

I remember the big fight about the Canadian No shipping policy and contacted them and can buy any perscribed antique i want as long as i supply a RCMP letter to em.
But i dont,
Cause the guns are pricy and by the time ya jump thru all the hoops its Sold to someone in the USA anyway.
Gun broker is the best place to find cheeper good Deals.
tho not latlely prices on antiques have been nuts.
I bought more guns in Canada in the last 6 months than from the USA.

I never bought a gun off Salter.
Or 1898 and B 4 there prices are just to high.

Frrom what I heard here in other threads past, Joe is retired, or not so much running the day to day business, and some other guy who does not have the same customer focus is running the show.
