John Wayne Commemorative Winchester 94

I see them advertised from $2000 to $3500 USD but the going rate is somewhat lower and I've seen a couple sell at auction for $1500 to $1800 USD. I've also read that there were only 1000 John Wayne's made for Canadian issue compared to 49000 for US issue but I don't know if that affects the price at all. I not a Commemorative expert by any means.

Thanks for all the input gentlemen

Seems there is a bit of spread between box/no box and price at the high end but this gives me a good indicator of relative trade value!

Thanks All!

Good Evening

I'm looking to see if anyone has any idea what the value of a NIB with papers John Wayne Commemorative Winchester 94 would be? Caliber is 32-40 and condition is 10 out of 10. I have had it for many years and although the box is a little tattered the rifle is perfect. Someone wants to trade for it and I really have no idea of its value although I paid a fair bit for it over 20+ years ago.

I don't spend much time with rifles so any help is appreciated,

Thanks

IF it is the John Wayne and not the "Duke", they were different offerings the JW sold for around the $1000.00 area when they first were issued in the early 80s, the "Duke" which had a diamond front site and inlay-ed engraving sold for around the $3000.00 mark back then.

The commemorative market is not what it was in the late 80s and early 90s. I see the JW selling for between $1200.00 for fired but in great condition to $2500.00 for unfired, mint box and factory commemorative box of ammo. The Dukes are very rare, last 1 I saw for sale was over $7k

Box IS important to the collectors.

I sold 8 unfired Commemorative 94's, various, no special ones, this winter, $850 each. No boxes. OP, don't be disheartened. People like to slag the Commemoratives and, of course, point out that they don't sell like they did back whenever.

There are people with different tastes and ideas than ours, so have patience.

The JW editions are probably the one commemorative that is actually worth over 1000.00, they were different in being a 32-40 for one thing, had their own special edition ammo as well and were relatively decently dressed. For the rest of them, anything over 750.00 seems a waste. Winchester shot themselves in the foot by making so many versions of the others.
