John- why not address a lot of negative comments and revise the Marstar website?

Any other changes planned for the website?

John:

Any other changes you're willing to tell us about? Or, anything you're thinking about that you'd like feedback on? Seems like a lot of would-be customers are interested....

Very good point, when we leave that note on the site it is because we expect more.... However some products take up to 18 months to arrive.... How shall we note these ?

"-dead links to web pages that don't exist (the drop down for the vz-58 under the rifles page was dead forever..lol)"
You can help, should you hit upon a "dead" link" please take a moment to notify our webmaster christian@marstar.ca

"- an overly complex main menu"
Our new drop down menus are being completed as we speak should be up and running soon.

"-I love the shopping cart idea!"
This is a major issued being studied, because of the numerous shpping options and other issues it has yet to be resolved....

"I like the pre order."
We thought it was a good idea, but we were ever wrong.... My staff was exposed to all kinds of grief....

You have raised many good points and I do thank you for taking the time to drop us a note, stay tuned, many changes are coming

I can see this being difficult - owing to the fact that you need to receive the PALs and other particulars of a customer's transaction after an order has been placed. Traditional shopping cart systems will deduct product from inventory when an order goes through, but Marstar can't do that without getting into the expense of PCI certifying their server and card data storage system. That means the shopping cart can place more orders than there's inventory to fulfil. The new requirements that went into effect this year are a real bear to get your head around, but let it be said that non-compliance and discovery leads to your merchant bank pulling your rights to take payments online. I can understand Marstar not wanting to pass these costs along to the customer.

I dont see such a problem with the shopping cart idea considering just about every single store online, including sponsors are using that kind of system.
Hope to see the new changes soon!

The points raised in this thread "Firearms web sites - how to lose business" are rather interesting.... again, Marstar seems to have addressed a few of them.

Hi John,

Just like you said there, that some "products may take 18 months to arrive, stock will be updated on the site once it arrives". That would hopefully quiet some of the cry babies.

"cry babies"?

I dunno, I think it's reasonable to know if or when an item's going to be available. I'll know whether to wait or make alternate plans.

"I dunno, I think it's reasonable to know if or when an item's going to be available. "

What I tried to explain is that in many cases we don't have any idea when certain goods will arrive, it is quite normal to receive documents alerting us of a shipment in as little as a week....

No problem, John. My remarks are directed at Tuco Pike's comment.

I'm sure you wouldn't expect your customers to wait (and whine!) indefinitely if there's no chance of obtaining merchandise through you. That's really all I'm getting at.

I've shopped at Marstar several times and I'll continue to do so.

Their website is about on par with many other sites selling similar products.

I have noticed that firearms related businesses in general (NOT at all just Marstar) do have a very bad habit of not updating their websites nearly reguarly enough, so that things are either listed as "in stock" when they are not, or listed as "out of stock" for months or years. This is very frustrating. NOBODY likes to pull up a page of pistols and see them all out of stock for months at a time. Anyone with a web site should be updating it regularly (every couple of days) to quickly let shoppers know when an item is out of stock. Items that are out and will not be replaced for longer than a couple of weeks should be either completely removed, or all moved to an "inactive items" section of the web site that is separate from the shopping section. There's no such thing as "good clutter".

I do kind of get the feeling that some vendors are purposely posting things on their sites (or leaving them there) that they know they will never have again (or not for years) just to add eye candy to their sites and draw people in. Definitely dirty pool in my books. Norinco Type 97 rifles are still listed on a webiste many of us know, but just listed as "Out of Stock".

Fully automated check out really is a positive step forward for any on-line vendor that does not have it yet, period. Being able to make purchases 24/7 instantly gets more people to buy more things than having to call back on Monday morning during Eastern time business hours for example.
