Wanting to bed a rifle. I’m can’t find any Johnson Floor Wax in Canada. What are people using now to coat the metal with when bedding.

If you want to use "paste wax" - I ended up getting a tub of "Trewax" brand at local Co-op Lumber yard. "Clear paste wax with Natural Carnuba Wax". Oddly, the can comes with instructions / labels in English, French and Spanish. I have also used the Neutral Kiwi Shoe Polish. Last one done was using the spray on stuff from Amazon - MG Chemicals 8329 Epoxy Mold Release. Maybe overly fussy, but I apply with a small artist's paint brush - let dry - buff it - then do that a second time. Have never got one "stuck" yet, so no reason to change how I had been doing it...

Simonize past wax is great for floors, cars, bedding firearms, and polishing a hand rubbed stock.

Any petroleum base wax used as a release agent for epoxies is going to bleed.

If applied along the water line of the stock or other inlet areas, clean the area to be glassed w/ acetone.

Depending on how "HOT" your epoxy mix is.....shoe polish may not release properly.

In the past I used shoe polish, now that I am older and more impatient I use Hornady One Shot Case Lube. I use Devcon 10110 steel putty and I have never had a problem.

I think the reason to select a release agent is to get something that the epoxy won't stick to, and that does so when very, very thin so the epoxy actually sets as very close fit to the metal. Tend to want to select epoxy that does not shrink when it hardens, for same reason. Some stuff will work as release as it does not let epoxy stick, but is "thick" or will stay "greasy" and harder to clean up afterwards or does not give a very snug "fit". Depends how fussy you want to be. I think often is to be able to use something already on hand in the house, rather than buy another thing that will dry out and become useless by the time the next job comes around... I am not familiar with the devcon release agent, but have used the "paint on" stuff that came with the Brownell's Acraglas kits - it dries like a plastic film that needs to be peeled off afterwards.

Min-Wax Finishing paste wax.CT< Homehardware<. A tablespoon in a small tuna can heated in a small pot of hot water on the stove and a 1/2'' touch-up paint brush. While the wax is heating pre warm up the action with a hair dryer, the now liquid wax will flow like diesel fuel. After bedding cures use hairdryer to heat metal again to pop out.Never had a problem with epoxy, JB or Acraglass. DON"T try heating wax on stove without being in water!!!
