Hey guys. On behalf of a friend I am looking for a smith willing to work on a M41 Johnson. Preferably in B.C. but at this point I think he would be willing to ship further afield.:bangHead:
The rifle rejects the primers when fired so the head space is bad or maybe a new barrel of some kind is needed.
Any and all help gratefully recieved.

I had Jason, at Gunco in Ottawa. make a new barrel for a friend of mine. He did an excellent job. he used ,a used ruger 3006 barrel ,and the price was very reasonable.

What ammo?
The chances of finding a smithy who is familiar enough with a Johnson are slim.
"...primers are pushed right out of the brass..." That can be poor brass, excessive pressure from too hot a load or bad headspace. If he's not having hard extractions as well as the primers backing out, it's unlikely to be the headspace. Headspace can be checked with regular .30-06 headspace guages. Brownell's sells 'em. He needs a No-Go and a Field only.
In any case, tell him to quit shooting it until he figure it out. Johnsons have gotten extremely expensive. Far too expensive to risk serious damage. Mid four figures, in USD, the last time I looked. Proper barrels run $150US, if you can find one.
Gunparts lists a manual at $11.90 US. There is no U.S. Army manual as the rifle wasn't accepted by them.

The ammo was new factory ammo, can't remember which kind as this was 4 years ago. He fired two rounds when I noticed the primers and stopped him and it hasn't been fired since. As for the price of these, well I know what he paid for it and he has a very good reason to get her going again.
