Johnsons Paste Wax in the Lower Mainland

This is too funny! I though I was the only one have troubles finding SCJ Paste Wax aswell. I guess we should start a support group. :D

I've found a few sources of Paste was but dam it's not cheap($30 a pop for a 14 ounce tin MinWax).

However you could order it from the SCJ website and have it shipped to a US address, it's listed for $6.50 per tin or $35.34 for a case of 6 (group buy anyone? ;)). I've also found Mold Release Wax ($17 a tin) and other products that cold be used as a release agent aswell for. From what I understand the wax or release agent that is used should be silicone free.

Further info on the Trewax paste from trewax.com

Paste Wax-Clear or Mohogany

Trewax Paste Wax contains Natural Brazilian Carnauba Wax, the world's hardest natural wax ensuring a lustrous, hard, long wearing finish. Trewax Paste Wax restores the original rich brilliance of hardwood floors, fine wood furniture and marble surfaces. A 1 lb. can will cover approximately 1,000 square feet. Trewax Paste Wax dries quickly and is non-slip. Buffable to desired shine.

Our local CANADIAN TIRE has MINWAX PASTE WAX for $8.99 for a 450 ml tin. It's over in the soap and cleaning stuff area.

Getting better...!

But all we really want is good old Johnson's Paste Wax; cheap, no high-tech, been around since God was in short pants. :(

Hmmm.... entrepreneurial opportunity! Buy industrial quantity of JPW and a few thousand 2 oz. plastic containers; melt wax, add coloured dye (green would be nice), fill containers and label. Presto! "Uncle Bob's Original Release Agent. Only $6.50."

I'll be able to afford that African safari after all.

It isn't just hard to find in BC. Here in Ontario I have to go to the US for it. I find it in the big box stores in the grocery section. After searching for it here and the internet I concluded it is not carried in Canada.
It works well for finishing off muzzleloader barrels that have been browned.

Try a local hardware store/building supply .... Johanson's Paste Wax has long been one of the standards for furniture & floor care.

Worst comes to worst ... try the Vancouver Lee Valley Tools ... a specialized
tool & wood working retail supplier ... they have some paste waxes I find
to be superior.

If you go to Lee Valley bring only enough cash for the wax and for Gawd's sake leave your credit cards at home!

x2:D Same for Hardware Sales in Bellingham. I spent narly 2 hours there on Saturday morning. 4 aisles of bins (not prepackaged) of fasteners alone, stacked as high as you can reach. Anyone looking for 5-40 or 6-40 black steel capscrews? (In fact, machine screws down to Size 0, I was told. No 6-48, however.) How about 2-pin FH security screws? Or a 48" pipewrench? Or Foredom professional miniature grinders and Cratex abrasive points. Enormous selection of professional-grade socket wrenches and hand tools generally. Some Starret measuring tools... Upstairs, sheet neoprene rubber and bronze mesh in several widths, stainless steel, brass and nylon brushes... And that’s only in the main building. Black steel pipe in LONG lengths cut and threaded, cables and hawser, safety equipment etc. in the Rope and Rigging building. And thoroughly knowledgeable, mature staff.

BUT... no Johnson’s Paste Wax! (Trewax only.) Buggah!
