joined two clubs

I have joined two gun clubs (one of them is close to home and has an indoor range and the other one, which is farther away, has an outdoor range and lots of stuff the first one doesn't have). I already did the rnage saftey course and probationary shoots with one of them and they are requesting an att for me. My question is, what will happen when the 2nd club goes to request an att? Also, let's say I only have the att issued by the 1st (but, of course, am using it to go tot he 2nd), what will happen if I don't renew my membership at the first club but just the 2nd?

I dont know about Ontario but in BC my ATT says I can take my r-firearms to ANY authorized range in BC. I would assume it's the same there.

If youre that concerned, why not call both ranges and ask them about their policy on this?
 
In Ontario you can only have one ATT for clubs. The first club is requesting an ATT for you so you need to advise the 2nd club that you have an ATT pending. Once you get it then advise the second club that you have one.

You will see once you get the ATT that it will state on it your home club & also that it is valid for other approved ranges. That is why you only need the one ATT.

If at some point in the future you do not renew with the club that is named on the ATT then they are supposed to advise the CFO to cancel it. If you belong to another club when this happens then you simply ask them to request a long term ATT for you.

For your information, if you are a member in good standing at more than one club, it is YOUR choice as to which club gets the ATT for you. So my suggestion would be to go with the club that you plan to renew with.

I am not trying to be smart but I would suggest that you read the conditions of your long term ATT when you get it. For example it is not good ( In Ontario ) for taking it to say a gunsmith. It is for going to an approved range & then back home.
 
Do you HAVE to be a member of the range to get an ATT to transfer it there?! The closest indoor handgun range to my house is $500 a year!! But it's $40 to walk onto the range (plus the cost of renting guns). If I buy my own, $40 everytime I walk on, it works out cheeper for me to do it that way then to buy a membership. I wont go but once a month, if that!

Do I really HAVE to get ripped off and get a membership?!

As long as you have a long term ATT the answer is no. You don't have to be a member . The terms of the ATT have a home club but also allows transport to other approved ranges. That allows us to go to other approved ranges as guests etc.

But as far as I know, In Ontario, you have to be a member in good standing in one club to get a long term ATT. At least that is what I have been told for years.

In Alberta you have to be a member of a range to get a LTATT.
It will be good for any authorized range in the province.
If you are talking about the range I think you are they offer an associate
membership.
$50 a year and it meets all CFC requirements.
You still pay the $40 for a day pass when ever you go.

To be blunt, I'm talking about target sports here in Toronto
When I was there last, the guy said NOTHING about this associate membership. If they offer that, I'm down like a quarter pound. But I REFUSE to drop $500 or more for a membership when I wont go even once a month. Do they offer an associate membership?

Cheaper just to drop $40 to get on the range and $25 to RENT a 9mm.

I'm a member of FOUR Ontario Shooting Clubs with CFO approved restricted ranges.

I get my ATT through my parent club (Colby Shooting Club) & am required to send the other three clubs a copy of my ATT to maintain my pistol range privileges.

I picked Colby because it is associated with Shooters Choice in Waterloo (lots of $$$$) & the completely enclosed, ultra modern infrastructure is the most CFO proof in the Province.

The Galt Sportsmen's Club is currently under serious CFO scrutiny ("attack") & their rifle range was closed for a while and will reopen with strict new rules such as a minimum of TWO persons required before the range can be used.

I liked to go there on my own & sight in my moose/deer rifles in peace & quiet.........looks like those days are over.

Rifles can be sighted in at the Galt outdoor pistol range out to 200 yards so I won't be renewing my Galt rifle range membership next year and I suspect that a lot of other Galt rifle range members won't either.

My ATT is with Colby so if the CFO closes any or all of my other clubs (if he doesn't it won't be for lack of trying) I won't lose my ATT.
 
It sounds to me like I'm not going to be owning my own firearm anytime soon simply because I can't afford the $600 membership fee at the club closest to my house. This is so frustrating. How can they get away with charging such rediculous prices while other provinces people are paying under a hundred for their whole family for a YEAR!

Gaaah...frustrating...

Silverdale is WAY too far...I'm in Toronto. I honestly find this rediculous, there isn't a a club within a half hour drive that has a reasonable fee...

Guess I'm stuck going to target sports once every two months and paying $65 to get on the range with a 9mm and 50 rounds. Still cheaper than friggen $600...

matt491: I`m somewhat stuck now too as to finding a club. :-( We live in the wrong city for this sport. The closer we live to a big city, the bigger the shaft is what I can see.

I checked out Sharon today and I can`t even submit application form until I own 1 share of the club ($1000). I was hoping I can sign up now and go through their probation process too! Makes matters works, they`re supposedly fully booked for the summer for shotgun & rifle safety course. Handgun is still open. Provided I even start right now at Sharon, looks like I won`t be a full member until next summer. So basically paying them about $350 a year is a write off since I would still be under probation.

Target is great for pistols and a bonus being indoors for winter. But I want to shoot rifles too and 25 yards just not long enough. I can`t belong to two clubs either. Cost too much...

Looks like I have no choice but to work on Sharon, trying to find that 1 share and then go through all the red tape to become a full member. Definitely, shooting is a very expensive hobby!

Silverdale looks like the best place but it`s way too far. Looks like 30-40 mins range/safety orientation and you`re good to go (according to their website). Now why can`t all clubs do that... If it works for Silverdale, why not others... In the US, there are public ranges, just sign in, pay range fee and shoot. I think silverdale is the same deal.. $20 and it`s fair...
 
Sometimes we can be our own worst enemies. Fees like that will drive lots away from sport shooting. I guess they want to go for the "country club snob image".

There`s another club a little farther from the `the big city`. But a whole bunch of people here said if you don`t own a super expensive shotgun, you`re out of place. LOL!

I`m not gonna investigate into that.. It`s a little too far anyway, but the fees are decent but some of their rules are just way too serious... Can`t fire FMJ for starters and I don`t know why. That alone (regarless what the atmosphere is), I won`t join.

Matt491: if you ever decide to shoot rifles and shotguns.... best if we know where we can go up north to plink in the bush. 100% free. Yup, it`s even farther but it`s worth it since there are no crazy club rules in the bush besides doing the obvious to shoot safe. Been trying to dig up info about plinking on crown land, but failed... Whoever knows sure ain`t telling me not even PM. :-(
 
Also if you have two residences, you get two ATTs.
That's the case in my case at least.
Nothing I have found in the regs or on the ATT that says the old one becomes invalid.
 
There was a place up in Simcoe County that people used to blast away.

Apparently some CGNer got a ticket for 60$ for target practice.
Hunting is still ok in that area.

I'm looking for a new place.
