After waiting years a left hand african came up for grabs so i am grabbing it. Its going to be my first proper left hand rifle ive owned. Many marlins and ruger number ones have come and gone but i have always wanted a lefty.
My 308 marlin is going to be my mainstay deer rifle but we have had an invasion of wild boar lately so this is gonna be the rifle i use. Having seen them and seen how tough they are i want something that will anchor them no questions asked. I am no stranger to hard kickers, i have handloaded for my guide gun and a ruger no 3 in 45/70, so my questions are reloading related. Case life? Neck size or full lenth size? Good bullet for deer to hogs to moose? Pet loads?
Anyone use the 250 grain gmx?

You will be happy with your 375 Ruger. Couldnt tell you about brass life yet as im still on a rotation with my 2x fired brass. Im shooting 250g ttsx and 270 tsx both with H4350. Those pigs arnt going to know what hit them :) I always full length size on my hunting rifles but thats just me....

You will have a good combination with your current Marlin and a 375 Ruger, I have had three rifles chambered in the Ruger with my current one ( a Howa ) being the best.
My Ruger African was an early one and had no cross-bolts in the stock which baffled me because it had substantial recoil so we cross-bolted and bedded it after reading about issues with their stocks on the Yankee Forums.
Check the stock very closely for cracks in the tang and receiver area and if it isn't bedded by all means do so for prevention of problems.

Case life seems to be good with my supply of newer brass, I can't comment on the performance of the 250 GMX as I used up my stash without finding a good load.
My rifle prefers the 270 and 300 gr. Hornady bullet and that's fine with me as I use those in my H&Hs and a 375/06 IMP..
Good luck with your purchase, check it over really well before use and you should be happy with it..

I have been ignoring old threads about it. A lot of people crapped on it early on for taking on the 375 h and h.

Actually it was the other way around the Ruger fan club crapped on the H&H resulting in the H&H fan club getting fed up with the anti H&H spewers spewings so they started spewing back...

I would suggest a good bedding right from the start before any possible trouble. A LH stock would be hard to replace.

I've had my .375 a Ruger since 2009. It was built on a FN action with a 21" McGowan heavy sporter barrel. Case life has been excellent with none of the problems reported by others. I partial resize until clambering gets a bit stiff then FL resize the batch then back to partial resizing.

My all time favorite load for accuracy is 67 gr of Varget behind a 300 gr Hornady RN for around 2375 fps. This is a mild recoiling load that is a pleasure to shoot.

My hunting load is 81 gr of RL17 behind a 270 gr Barnes 3X for about 2700 fps. If I substitute 270 gr Hornady spitzers velocity is around 2750 fps.

I haven't tried any 250 gr bullets but I have shot some 260 gr Nosler Accubonds. With RL15, velocity was around 2850 fps. This was with a Nosler book load.

If you dig around, pretty sure you will find a lot of complaints about the brass. Dont know if this is due to early teething and is fixed or if it is still a issue.

I dug around a lot when I first got my .375 Ruger, in fact I'm pretty sure I search the whole internet! The only complaints about the brass I read were from cfbmi.

It most certainly wasn't just me, Kevan reported problems as did 1/2 doz other guys in that thread............
OP my son has had great success with 260 ABs and has taken several NA animals including bison with them and a dozen African plains game up to eland and reports outstanding results. However his has shot itself out of it's original stock (African model) and is now in a Boyds laminate. Before even firing mine I bedded it and pinned it through the wrist just ahead of the checkering as well as through the web just ahead of the trigger........Ruger don't spend a lot of money on wood and it's better to be safe than sorry.

I took my brass issue directly to Hornady and they replaced all my bad brass with new manufacture, now I never need to but another piece.... great people to deal with..

I've fired the 250 GMX in the Ruger and it is a very accurate bullet. I recommend. It does limit case capacity with its length.

True, many people don't like anything new for some reason. Luckily, you are no Luddite and you've got a fantastic cartridge to smack hogs ( or anything else ) with. :dancingbanana:

Never tried the GMX but I've used the 250 TTSX 260 NAB 270 TSX 300 NAB 300 SGK 270&300 HORN INTL and 350 Woodleigh. All shot very well usually sub MOA and with excellent velocity. H4350 is an excellent powder although RL17 has given eye popping velocities and I'm looking forward to trying RL26 soon.

Brass life isn't an issue,I've only seen negative comments from a couple of people on CGN and nowhere else.
