I want one for plinking and deer hunting. The rugers are half decent, but have no detachable mag and ftf issues. Does anything like this exist? Doesn't have to be a jr. I just think something in a similar platform chambered in that round, or similar, would be awesome.

It would need some sort of bolt locking system, straight blowback won't cut it for .44 Mag. The rimmed cartridges might be an issue as well, but Desert Eagle seems to have it solved, so their mags could be used. The .44 AutoMag would be a much more suitable cartridge, but making brass is a PITA and no one has produced it for a while now that I know of. It would make a great short range bush gun and give the fudds fits at the same time, that's a win/win in my books.

Single shots mean you don't have to look for brass all the time. I'd love to get a lever gun and a revolver combo to match in calibre. 44 mag would probably be a good choice

While I appreciate a lever action carbine as much as the next guy they are in no way comparable firearms to a JR in .44 Mag.

I agree but I am doubtfull that the JR would handle 44mag. Considering that a low pressure round like the 45acp was causing failures in this platform I think that 44 mag would probably cause spontaneous disassembly and user injury.

This design would probably demand locking lugs into a strong enough receiver. The end product will not be as affordable as the mere tubular reciever of the JR carbine IMO.
Yep seems like it would be a whole redesign of their receiver and bolt. I don't think they are a big enough company for that, even though they've been making some serious sales lately.

Kelt ex and tiger both make sub 1000 guns with locking bolts. A tilting bolt similar to the sks I don't think would be as sophisticated. However, the simplicity of the jr is nice. I would be all over the jr, if it was chambered in something useful for hunting

As I said, it would need a complete redesign to a locked bolt system. There is no way the straight blowback action could handle the .44 Mag as it sits.

IIRC 44 automag brass can be made from 30-06 brass.

Yes, but you have to ream the necks to the correct thickness and that is the PITA part.

It's the inside reaming to neck thickness thats the biggest pita.

Exactly.

There used to be people, Stateside, playing with M1 Carbines in assorted chamberings. No 19" barrels now though. Despite the DE, rimmed revolver cartridges don't feed worth beans in a semi-auto rifle
"...IIRC 44 automag brass can be made from..." Yep. Originally made from .308 brass, so any cartridge in the family will do.

actually I purchased 44 amp made by starline so if you want you can make it from the rifle cases or just buy it ,its all up to the individual

Lamo I own one in 9mm 44 mag would be awesome but I would expect this^^^

Ummmm.... MY Ruger .44 has detachable mags and I've never had a FTF or failure of any other kind either..... Wow.
