JR Carbine - Gun, Ammo or Me? *BIG PICS*

The modifications I described in my earlier post has made a big difference in feeding dependability!
Not perfect, but I managed to run nearly three mags through before a failure to feed occurred. Shot #27 was the culprit.
After that, another full magazine was used and no malfunctions.
Not perfect, but HUGELY improved!

Hope this information can help someone.

Straight shootin, and keep it fun!

What bullet were you using?

A variety of ammo.

Federal personal defense, 200gr.
Winchester 230gr. BEB, small pistol primed ammo
Winchester 230gr. Ball rounds.
Another box of ammo, that I cant presently recall the name of. (230gr).

Eventually will try some 230 gr. Sierra jhp reloads. I know that is supposed to void the warranty, but I load for everything I own. And I am not going to worry about that.

I will try some more 200 grain ammo, as soon as it comes available here.

By the way, I got my magazine apart and made sure the spring was nice and straight.

Yes I got the fixed butt stock off they are pinned with a roll pin I first drilled a small hole in from the other side of the stock this did not work as the pin would not drift out so on the side that you can see I used a small high speed carbide Bur to grind it down till I could pull the stock off works fine now you maybe able to use a carbide drill to drill it out.

I ran a drill bit, that was slightly larger than the inside diameter of the pin, into the pin and easily pulled it out.

FYI: This from the JR plant in New York:

Despite our pre-production testing and the fact that we test fire every JRCarbine that leaves our factory, some of our customers continue to experience feeding problems in our .45acp models. We are currently working on an engineering solution of the problem and have suspended further production and distribution of our .45 acp model pending its resolution. As soon as have resolved the issue we will provide existing .45acp JR Carbine owners the necessary upgrade parts at no charge. We will also resume production and distribution of our .45 acp model incorporating the upgrades design features.

In a further email they have determined the problem is with the bolt and they are making new ones. They will be available to owners as a replacement in about two weeks.

These guns are far to picky about everything from lube to ammo. The only way i don't have problems feeding with mine is using hand loaded lead RN. Any other ammo i put thru it and its a jam-o-matic.

picky with ammo, maybe, but mine was never picky about lube. OR being cleaned, just past 700rnds with out cleaning it. Thats 1700 rounds in total through this lill thing. I used atf for lube at the start, ive been using slip2000 ewl ever since I decided to see how long it will go without being cleaned. Now I just give it a drop or six when it starts slowing down. so far s ogood

All JR .45's need fix?

Wow - that's good info to have. Is this an acknowledged problem with all JR's in .45?

Buddy of mine recently bought one in .40cal .... put about 20rounds through it and started having same issue. Store that sold it to him told him that it's a "known issue" for the .40's and that they would repair the feed ramp under warranty ... estimated time of repair = 3 weeks.

I just bought a JR in .45 ACP as well, and I can't make it through a magazine without some kind of stoppage. I've tried a variety of different ammo and some works better then others, but none of it will get me through a magazine. As the OP stated the gun really chews up the rounds too. It's really too bad because the gun seems quite accurate.

Yep it sure eats brass, i managed 5 mags worth of reloads with 2 stops, going to try some more today.

will not be reloading the brass :(

Hope the new bolt sorts this out.

As Ive mentioned a few times in a few threads, ive got a whole WACK (now 1800) rounds through my JRC. Its become my firearm of choice when teaching new shooters. As I have said, I had some issues at first but it was quickly sorted out by JRC.

the 45acp is a FAT round compared to the 9mm. Im wondering what would happen if somone did some serious re shaping to the feed ramp as well as the new bolt....It a bit of a jump up from the mag to the chamber..
