So a local member sold me a JR carbine last year, and I did not get a chance to take it our until lately. I took it out fired 2 shots and the bolt jammed open.
I took it home and when I broke it down the bolt seemed to be binding in the upper about mid way. so I cleaned the bolt and tried to polish out the inside of the upper. I lubed the bolt dropped it in and it seemed slide in nice, take it back to the range take 2 shots and the bolt is binding again stuck about half way again.

Has anyone ever seen this failure with a JR? any ideas?

Sounds like the extractor is loose on the opposite side. There are two small allen screws that need to be tight on the rectangular extractor. I use a bit of blue medium hold locktight to make sure they don't rattle loose again.

Hope this helps.

YES! Exact same issue, I just took it all apart a day ago. The Charging Handle was {is} loose on mine. I'll check the extractor & anything else that can be tightened. Seem like a well built/quality & very nice carbine, but also a p.i.t.a.

same issue with the one I owned. p.i.t.a

^ Did you sort it out? I know the .45 was the one that seemed to have most of the complaints. People with 9mm/.40 in the most part are happy, I am doing more research on that. I just think, its kinda like the new FX9. Just needs a bit of sorting out kinda thing. If I trade/sell..I will disclose this thread, lol but I would LOVE if I could just get it to work 99.9%. We'll see after I put 'er all back I guess. On a side note, if you just change out a .40 barrel, for a 9mm, think it would work, no other mods? I have a Glock 22, & I only {ever} changed the barrel, & it's just always just worked. The kits exchange 'Kits' include a new Bolt/extractor etc. as well.

No did not get it figured out; just broke it down, extractor bolts tight, charging handle was tight, bolt slides in no problems, it seems to be the carrier.
the front of the carrier is getting bound up, I think the carrier is out of round at the front.

Who in Canada if any carries JR carbine parts?

Get a hold of JR carbine and they will get you sorted
They are awesome to deal with I bought a used 45 JRC off the EE a couple years back and it was jamming every round
The folks at JR carbine told me to send it to Eldwood Epps for repair which I did and they fixed it for free!
I just had to pay to ship it there

If the butt stock has been changed out with a factory AR15 stock , you might finds that is it a little too long , which will cause the bolt handle to hit on the back of the reciever notch .... sometime cause the bolt to hang up, and or make the boot handle to come loss. The factory rear stock is about an inch shorter then a the mil spec tube.
Cheers

X2 on check the stock. I replaced the fixed factory stock on my 9mm JR with a collapsible Magpul CTR. Immediately had cycling problems. Went to the JR website and saw that there is a specific length buffer tube that has to be used (mine was too short). I did call them them and they were very helpful (spoke to one of the owners). Changed the buffer tube to the recommended length and the gun ran fine (as it had before I changed the stock).

^^^ You guys could always take up the extra space inside the buffer tube by putting a spacer in the rear such as a short piece of a delrin spacer or even a couple of quarters will work.

Yes I did...with a 1 inch aluminum spacer....a couple of quarters?...maybe a stack of quarters lol.

When I bought mine 8 years or so ago, I did what I do with any new gun; stripped it down, dab of blue loctite on every bolt, screw I can find, and retighten to factory spec. It’s been flawless; thousands and thousands of rounds through it. I had a trigger spring that went bad, called them and got most of the trigger assembly by courier a couple days later, no charge. their customer service is great, at least the one time I used it, it was
