Hello! So I have a problem with the stock on my jr carbine, seems to only want to telescope out 3 positions, I bought it used and this is the first gun I've had with a telescoping stock so I didn't know the difference, I'm not sure if it's broken or if it's made that way, either way I'd like to replace it with a 6 position. But I don't really know what to look for.! Do I just goto any AR-15 parts supplier and buy one ? Does it have to be mil spec or commercial ? (Whatever that means)

Noob by the way. If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great.

Both milspec and commercial tubes will fit your reciever. They have a few different outer dimensions that military or commercial specifications call for. Only milspec stocks fit milspec tubes and vice versa. I would suggest getting a milspec, 6 position tube, and magpul stock of your choosing from CTCS, site sponsor.

If you're just looking for a new tube to match your stock, what kind of tube do you have now? Milspec tubes have a flat face at the rear, commercial are angled.

Thanks for the info. I will take pics when I get home, I'm not to sure. Check back in an hour or so

The factory one has a commercial buffer tube.

From their website:
JR Carbine buttstocks use commercial grade buffer tubes. These will accommodate milspec tubes, but the stock bodies will fit somewhat loosely on the mil-spec tubes. One usually cannot match up a mil-spec stock body with a commercial buffer tube, however, because the greater diameter tube will not fit within the molded stock body. If you are using an entirely new stock assembly, though, it will not matter whether the assembly is commercial or mil-spec. Having said that, you MUST ensure that the internal buffer tube depth of the replacement stock does not vary more than 1/8th of an inch from the depth of the buffer tube your JR Carbine was supplied with. You MUST ALSO ensure that you use ONLY the internal parts (buffer/spring/nylon disc/rubber bumper) that came with your original JR Carbine buttstock. Set aside any internal buffer tube parts that came with your aftermarket stock and do not install them on your JR Carbine. If you try to use them instead of the proprietary parts provided with your JR Carbine and the installation method prescribed, your carbine will break and require repairs - which will not be covered by warranty.

Leave it commercial and buy a Magpul CTR from Wolverine, instead of CTCS.
Commercial stocks will fit milspec tubes, with just a bit of wobble. Not the same scenario the other way around though.

Didn't end up going home tonight so I have no pictures, but I see what you guys are saying, your probably right about the pos part.

As for milspec tube with commercial stock **little bit if wobble** that's what I'm trying to avoid, I want this thing tight,

Yeah just saying they fit in a pinch. The CTR stock has a secondary lock which clamps it down tight on the tube.

So! Turns out I have a first gen model where there was a pin installed into the buffer tube for "California laws" which was easily removed. also a simple tightening of the castle nut with the AR wrench fixed my wobble problem. Big thanks to Chris at rouge river arms for helping me out :)
