JR Carbine

Also, how are you guys lubricating this thing. The manual basically calls for next to no lube but I was considering a light coat of standard CLP on everything. Recommendations?

I followed the manual and it got me in trouble, sticky bolt. And I #####ed and #####ed and #####ed and never got any answers from JR or from here. I was miserable and grumpy and I felt like throwing it in the Fraser river.

Then I got illuminated by the voice of a guru, and I soaked it in hoppes, and I mean really soaked it, it was dripping, and ran it wet and it never caused me any trouble at all except for spraying my glasses. And now I'm very very happy with it. Now I'm running it dripping wet ever since and it's one hell of a shooter, 200 yard gongs!

had mine for a few years now, soaked the moving parts with slip 2000, wipe and re assembled.. when it starts to slow down I'll add a drop to the bcg and all is well again. I used to brake it down and clean it every 500 rnds... I gave up on that, so far its gone for over 1000 more without a through cleaning.

Just putting it out there that I tried a brand new KCI cheapo extended magazine on my .45 and it wouldn't feed at all. In fact, the spring was so weak that I eventually noticed that the follower would come all the way up. I don't know what anyone else's experience has been, luckily, I was able to get my money back with that one. Much happier running factory Glock mags.

I'll still waiting to get sights for mine in .40s&w, have other priorities for money at the moment. Going with a carry handle sight, probably one from brownells with a fixed front sight.

I have one in 40s&w, and you might have some issues running wet in the winter as I did earlier. On cold days the lube (think it was hoppes) would seem to gum things up. These days I just use G96 on it where I can without taking it apart - spray, wipe, done. I usually run a snake thru it a couple of times and that's all it seems to need.
I have mine basically stock, with a crappy simmonds 4-16 scope and a harris bipod on it. It's fun to shoot, but much beyond 100 yds is a bit of a stretch cuz of the bullet drop. Eventually I'll put a different scope on it (that simmonds is pure crap and prolly the reason I don't use it as much right now), still looking at options. One thing I find funny about it is the very distinctive buffer spring "twang" with every shot. I chuckle (maybe I'm easily amused).

Bottom line for me - it's fun and NR, though I've never taken it hunting and not really sure what I would expect to use for if I did.

You are not supose to run lube on the JR.

From JRC instructions:

"YOUR CARBINE SHOULD BE CLEANED BY BRUSHING THE BARREL BORE AND CHAMBER WITH
EITHER SLIP 2000 EWL OR A GOOD POWDER REMOVING SOLVENT AND BORE BRUSH. AFTER
USING A BORE BRUSH AND SOLVENT SWAB OUT THE BORE AND CHAMBER WITH A PROPER BORE
ROD AND PATCHES UNTIL THE PATCHES COME OUT CLEAN. AFTER CLEANING PUSH A CLEAN
PATCH SATURATED WITH EITHER SLIP 2000 EWL OR GUN OIL THROUGH THE BORE FOLLOWED
BY A CLEAN DRY PATCH.
THE BOLT, BOLT EXTENSION, RECEIVER, AND EJECTOR PLATE SHOULD BE DISASSEMBLED AND
CLEANED IN A SIMILAR MANNER. LUBRICATE THEM WITH SLIP 2000 PRIOR TO REASSEMBLY.
NOTE: YOUR J R CARBINE HAS BEEN TEST FIRED BY THE MANUFACTURER BEFORE BEING
SHIPPED. AS A RESULT YOU MAY NOTICE A SLIGHT AMOUNT OF NORMAL POST-FIRING RESIDUE
REMAINING WITHIN THE CARBINE’S MECHANISM."

Im sorry but i don't care what all you "experts" say, i run my jr extremely wet now and I've had no more problems.

I listened to you "experts" before about running this rifle with very little lube on the bolt and I've had tons of issues because of that.

The issue may not be the amount but the type and application of lubrication used. There may be a delicate balance if you use a lube that isn't that great for this particular setup.

I ran mine a little on the wet side and I had debris going into my face. Guess I did something wrong and will try something different next time...

I bought my JR when they first came out and I dont run any lube on mine, and I have over 2000 rounds through it and it looks just as good as the day I bought it. I also only clean mine every 500 rounds or so. The only 2 problems I had with my JR is the firing pin peening out at the end from repeated use and causing light primer strikes. A quick file solved the problem. And when my 45 kit came in and I installed it, the trigger wouldnt reset. A quick call to EMF confirmed that I had an early model that had a weak hammer spring and needed a new trigger assembly. They sent me a complete trigger housing with the trigger installed, and a complete new hammer and spring for a spare. When EMF says to lube the bolt and and everything else they mean very sparingly. IE put lube on, then whipe off.

I dunno, I think the guy doesn't know what a JR carbine is, that thing is all metal, I don't get where he gets his plastic from.
Wow....tough crowd ? Who said anything about state of the art?? They are two different animals ! One is restricted the other is not....I have now fired both and in "my opinion" the Hipoint doesn't feel as cheap and plasticky....again "my opinion".........genius!!

My JRC is all metal, except for the M4 stock/pistol grip. I replaced all my M4 furniture for Magpul products. The HiPoint is as 'cheap and ugly' as they come. However, they do work well. To each their own.

It's sad that someone has to enter a thread they have no interest in, just to bash a platform they don't like.
