Hey everyone,
Looking for some insight here.
I recently acquired a brand new James River Armory K98k (new production barrel). Unfortunately, the rifle came with the barrel protruding through box to the point where the front sight hood was half off the rifle!
[I don't know how to upload pics, but I can email them to someone to post here if anyone is interested]
I was more curious as to to the rifles durability. As far as I know, the rifle was repeatedly slammed (potentially) barrel first during transport. Would this be cause for concern to myself? Other than some minor scuffs on the barrel tip, I don't see any real damage.
I was more looking for your expertise on any potential issues this could cause to the rifle itself. Could such an action against the rifle cause damage? Is there anything I should look for specifically on the rifle now or while shooting it?
I understand that this is a battle rifle and I purposely bought the new-barrelled model so I can shoot it. However, it is still an expensive rifle that, while I didn't want to baby it, I didn't want to abuse either.
I won't be able to shoot the rifle for some time due to work and weather; however, I will most definitely try to get out sooner rather than later.
Any insight that you guys can shed on this would be greatly appreciated! I just want to know if I should exchange this rifle for another one or if in good to go.
Thanks!
Quick note: this is NOT a bash against the dealer. Sure, some foam at the end where the barrel was would have helped, but they are good people and have been really courteous and professional so far (just got the rifle today). I will definitely still do business with the dealer. I just was curious as to whether or not my rifle may be irrevocably damaged.
