JRC .45 & KCI Mags - Big Pics

Hi All,

Thought I would post after attempting to use KCI mags as an alternative to the 10 rnd Glock mag supplied with the .45 JR. TLDR version - they didn't help, but didn't really hurt.

Loaded up 50 rnds of S&B in 5 KCI 10/26 rounders.

Put up a gong 50m away and had at it. Was hoping the allegedly stronger springs in the KCI mags would make a difference, but they didn't. Failure rate was about the same as the glock mags with factory ammo, which is to say a string of 3 shots without a failure felt lucky.

All in all, the magazines didn't seem to hurt things, but definitely didn't make things any better either.

I did have a bit of a disappointment with the KCI's though, while packing up to head off I dropped one from about a foot high on the tailgate of the truck, and the base plate went firing off into the brush never to be seen again.

Looks like I've got a 'parts mag' waiting for something to fail on the others now. Hopefully it's not also the bottom shooting off on those.

Lastly, can't shoot factory ammo in a JR without a mangled brass finish - yesterday's brass below!

6 Punctured cases, two rounds mashed back into the casing, and 3 casings mashed during stovepipes.

As G37 said on the other thread, looks like JR have introduced a heavier brass buffer - going to try picking one of those up to see if it makes a difference.

That is completely and absolutly unacceptable.

That company should be dismantled and the owner thrown in jail for selling a product like that.
 
Thank you for the review. I really appreciate your pictures seeing that you don't need to say much (pictures are worth a thousand words). I cannot believe there is a firearm that does that to the rounds. I feel that is dangerous....REALLY dangerous to use if the rifle punctures rounds like that.

Thanks for protecting us against a product that is not up-to-standard. I agree with Samson, you do have a pimp JRC......
 
All of hese problems have been discussed to nausium!

The heavier buffer will help, and reduced RELOADS will for the VAST majority, eliminate feeding problems.

I will guarantee if you reduce the powder charge in the factory ammo by 0.4-0.5 grains it will a problem of the past.

And yes nice modifications!

I have gone nearly 200 rounds since my last failure to feed in my 45ACP.

I am shooting 4.2grains of Trailboss, 230grain Cast Round nose bullets

I also put a radius on the bottom of the bolt face, so it wouldnt damage the brass so bad, if it does misfeed again.
 
I'm not that much of a reloader, and to be honest my hope is to address the issues without having to resort to custom loads for this gun.

My whole goal in buying the JR in .45 was to have a go anywhere (non-restricted) gun that was reasonably cheap to feed (both time and money) in a fairly powerful pistol cartridge and easy to maintain.

And that looked kinda like an AR so I could add some 'flair'.

If I can't fix it any other way I'll crank ammo that it can digest happily, but I don't mind spending some time and energy to try and make it work the way it should.

Hopefully you can get your rifle to reliably function! Just Right Manufactureing should really have done more R&D before releasing this Carbine model! They were very irresponsible!

Are these and other problems being presented to the manufacturer? And if so, what is their response? I really REALLY want one of these in either 9mm or 45acp (cant decide) for all the same reasons mentioned by the OP but seeing things like this give me reason to hold out rather than pull the trigger :confused:

I have a JR carbine in .45 acp. I was very disappointed at first with it and many of my rounds looked like geclark's. I contacted the inventor and he has been very responsive. He has phoned me twice from New York and we did some long distance gunsmithing that has worked out well. I have also been emailing him back and forth. He has sent me replacement parts free of charge. He is very concerned about his carbine and the fact that there are so many issues with the .45. IMO he is doing everything he can to fix it. I am glad I hung onto mine because it works extremely well now. While I agree the gun probably shouldn't have been put into production without more careful quality control, I think the guy is doing all he can to fix it. I know I wouldn't part with mine now. It is now doing all the things that made me want to buy it in the first place. Just my $.02 worth.
