Judge levies $30,000 in fines for poaching in Yukon.

I know a few people that poach deer year round no one in that area cares as deer vs cars happen way to often.

Good now if only ontario MNR would grow a spine and do the same

The MNR lays the charges, but it is up to the Court to start hammering the fines...
Lately they have been anywhere from $1500 to $70,000. They publish all convictions, check out the hefty fines in 2012.

In a similar case here in Dec., 2 men were fined $31500 for illegal bear hunting...

Not looking to start any arguments BUT;
If you are of the correct ethnic origin it wouldn't be classified as poaching! Even if you shoot Bighorn Sheep and leave them to rot on the side of the highway your only punishment would likely be a stern talking to from an Elder. One land ..... two laws! Now you tell me how that isn't discrimination?
Have a nice day!

What has your post got to do with this thread? Just start one regarding your concern.

Ted

Respectfully, what my comment has to do with your thread is that a fine of 30,000 dollars seems to be shall we say "unfair" when perhaps ones neighbour can do the same thing with impunity.
Now, I'm not advocating breaking any laws, heck, in 40+ years of driving I haven't even recieved one speeding ticket. I'm just saying the whole system IMHO is a "joke". The aboriginal population in the Yukon is
appx. 25%, so for 1 in 4 this would have been an non-issue and not considered poaching. IMO, to applaud the application of laws to only 75% of the population doesn't make a lot of sense or protect valuable wildlife. It only reserves the taking of that wildlife for 25%.
That's all I have to say on this matter,I appologize if my opinion has offended anyone.
