Judge this Bear *pic*

I'm looking for a bear for meat in the freezer, not a trophy specifically ( it it is, thats a bonus). I'd take it if it presented a shot. I wouldn't try it as shown in the picture, the vitals aren't clearly visible. Couple more steps and turn a bit to the left please. Threads like this are a great way for inexperienced hunters to learn how to judge an animal from those of you who have the experience.

I'm with Foxer and Workin Man.

That's a shooter for me because I want to eat a bear, not brag about it.

But that one is running away and I'll wait until it stands still or I see another one.

trail cam is great, I love it. easy to set up and it takes good pics

this was the first bear I captured and posted it for you all to see, was curious as to what you all thought of it. its hard to judge from that angle and distance, hopefully Ill get another pic of him/her before hibernation

Another angle would be better...hope you get another shot of him in the camera

Well obviously a few seconds is a little too quick to see if it has cubs so no one here would shoot it within that. Right:confused:

Now to answer your question mr bartell, its hard to tell from that picture  Pretty good sized shoulders, the ears aren't awfully small - wish I could see the nose... But I'll play along with a guess :) a 3 or 4 year old boar ~250 lbs??

ps your picure sucks :dancingbanana: definitely enough quality for the purpose at hand tho

I say whack 'im. Mind you, I get 2 tags, and I really like pepperoni...

Plus I've always wanted to have ### on a bear skin rug, and some women aren't all that big... :D

Off topic a bit I guess...but what does bear taste like? I've heard pork, but very greasy. I've never had the inclination to eat one, when I can eat elk or moose, am I missing something?

Bear's taste depends on what it's been eating. You wouldn't like a bear that's been feasting on salmon for example. So it's possible they may taste different out your way.

It never tastes greasy at all to me - if anything you want to get rid of every drop of fat from a bear. The fat has the 'rancid gamey taste' - lose that and the meat's pretty good. It's kind of a cross between moose and pig.

The meat is often tough on older bears. It generally favours roasts, burger, smoked hams, that kind of thing. It's really great done that way. It makes good steaks too but you have to be carefull or they'll be a little tough and or dry. Patting it down with olive oil is a good idea. Maranades work good too.

Spaghettis, peperoni, chilli, all that kind of stuff tastes really great with bear burger, better than beef burger by a ways. (a little stinky when you're browning the meat compared to beef, but it turns out awesome. )

I like bear. it's tasty if you do it right.

Salty, get your head out of your ass....You live in the Land of Great Bears..Leanr to judge them!!:runaway:

The bear in ther pic is a good deal smaller than Steadys bear, and a ####LOAD smaller than the boar I shot. No way he is a 4 yr old 250...

Man...I can't believe I will be forced to come up to your turf and show youthe error of your ways....;) :D :D :D

Ahem.

I could tell a story about a man who pointed out a 'really really small' bear to me once :D

That bear is a little bigger than most think, notice the distance between the ears (even though one ear is folded a little) as well as the angle the ear on the right is coming out of the head. My guess is that the bear is in the 5' 7" to 6 foot class.
