July Purchases

My Russian M44 showed up today. Thanx majormarine!

Here it is with my new to me Chinese SKS (all matching #'s ) which was out of John Pullens personal collection. These two look like trouble together, what a mean pair. :D

I would have done pics outside but nosy new neighbours were hanging around the fence line today.

Ok, she arrived ..... :)

I've prepared a 316 detailed picture photo montage for entry into the Milsurp Knowledge Library, but I still have to label all of the descriptive captions. :p

In the meantime, here's a quick peek ....

1939 Code 42 K98k (with walnut stock)
(Mfg in 1939 for the Luftwaffe by Mauser Werke AG, Oberndorf a/N)

Bottom line, I'm more than excited about this acquisition. Although I already had a 1939 Oberndorf in the collection, this new arrival turned out to be a real sleeper from a collectors point of view.

The condition is terrific and this rifle matches all the way down to the firing pin, with even the guard screws and release latch screw being serial numbered to the rifle. Of the 279,078 rifles reportedly manufactured by Oberndorf in 1939, only a random few were made with the traditional walnut stock. This turned out to be one of them. The majority were made with laminated stocks, the result of trials that had stretched through the 1930s.

The second bonus that was a real pleasant surprise is who it was made for. Besides Oberndorf's WaA63 stock markings (see pics), it's also marked with an "L" (Eagle above it), indicating it was manufactured for the Luftwaffe!

It's even acknowledge in Law's book that it is very rare to find K98's with the "L" Luftwaffe marking, as opposed to the more usual "H" Heer (Army) stamps.

So, all in all, I'm one happy camper. :D

Regards,
Badger

JUly purchases

June and July were pretty active months for me. Raided a local buddy's collection of his 41 Portuguese K98 w/matching bayonet, a 44 BYF K98 Czech re-work and a gorgeous Ross M-10 issued to 50th Gordon Highlanders (Victoria). Traded a spare Swede M96 for his 44BYF. Just let a spare Ross M-10 go and possibly another to make room. Damn I wish I could figure how to post pics!
P.S(Damn fine there Mauser Badger!)

Man, that is awesome rifle Badger. Nice score.

Since you've got this beauty now, I guess you can sell me your other 1939 Orbendorf ;)

Hey Calum, I've got the twin (except for the bayonet) for your SKS, a numbers matching 1967 Factory 26 - and I just picked up a new, 1966 Chinese Type 54. We're going to have to start a Viet Cong fan club for the Island  Mind you I've got an M14 too, maybe I'm just conflicted :D

Actually, he got it at the Switzer auction. It was well advertised and discussed in length at Milsurps.com - Badger was merely the high bidder.

Good stuff is around for those willing to back up the talk with cash and action ;)

On another note, I'm up to 4 Mausers this month:
-1939 JP Sauer (Yugo refurb)
-1941 Krieghoff made Luftampt K98k (lightly refurbed - not sure by who yet).
-Yugo M48 - matching non-refurb in above - average shape (and positively SOAKEd in cosmo)
-Czech M98 (non-refurb)

Also a complete M39 swedish uniform, several bayonets, German WW2 canteen and mess kit, etc.

Heck, I'm a fixed income pensionner.
I watched that Mauser sell at Switzer's; four members here and at Milsurps had absentee bids on it, and had asked me to keep an eye on it, and let them know the sale price. It would appear that at least three of the bid ceilings were very serious, there was real competition. It is a superior piece, and BadgerDog's photo array will be an excellent reference for anyone who wants to see what an absolutely correct specimen looks like.

I may be an engineer in Ottawa, but I'm not big (pretty skinny actually) and I'm NOT "fancy" ;) Also note that I didn't win that auction at Switzers... lol. Oh, and truth be told, the most expensive mauser I bouth this month only cost $500.

end june/july arrivals

Indeed!

I finally have a rifle as old as my SKS ammo chest bandoleer. :D

As the Bishop said to the Actress... Nice rack! :)

Just got my hands on a nice 1947 Izhevsk model 1944 Nagant Carbine.
The bayonet was taken off, but the guy I bought it off of has all the parts, so once he gets them to me I'll put the bayonet back where it belongs. :D:D

Pictures to follow once I find where I put my camera,:redface:

Here are some pictures. Found the camera :D

As far as I can tell it is matching, and there are markings of some sort all over the stock, some of which I am assuming are inspector marks. Diamonds with a number inside seems to be the common one.

Nice Cabinet, I'd like to build one of those and put in a stepper motor and drive to index the rotary table to a pre programmed location.
