Stgw57 aka SIG 510 in 7,5mm Swiss.

Unfortunately the former owner didn't take too much care of it and it has rust on the receiver.
Barrel should be in better shape since he didn't fire it for the last 10 or so years.

He was a truckdriver in the army and promised his platoon sergeant to give him his rifle once he finish's his military service (mandatory service in the militia ends with 32 for privates).

So I got it once the guys at the armoury converted it to semiautomatic.

Now I'm wondering what I should do with it? Putting a scope on it, cutting the barrel down to half the length? Should I leave it as it is?

@Scarecrow: you mean like this?

I already got my dad's old service rifle, which he kept in real good condition considering that he was in the infantry.

Any ideas what I could do about the rust?

The bore looks good though.

ronze wool and oil should take it off without overly affecting the finish. Then keep it well oiled afterward to prevent further rust :)

K98k Sniper cad scope & high turret mounts

This is the first of 3 K98k snipers being worked on this summer.

The first is a JP Sauer und Sohn K98 with "cad scope" and High Turret Mounts. Matching numbers on the rifle, howerever it looks to be refurbished at one point as it is marked with eagle over 135 & eagle over 37. The mounts are marked eagle over 37.

So it's TRUE eh! You dudes in Switzerland get to bring your military service weapons home with you, and that way if you get invaded everyone has a military "full auto" at their disposal??

Imagine that concept in Canada... oh the Horror:runaway:

@K98action: not exactly, it's just that all militia members have to store their personal weapons at home (assault rifles and pistols). After finishing the service the soldier can keep his rifle if he wants to, but it is converted to semiautomatic in this case.

Many soldiers don't want to keep their rifle and sell it instead (which is legal). Prices for a used Stgw57 dropped to about 250 bucks a piece.

@bigawg: yepp, they're prohib.

@Sgt Striker: I'll consider that (moving to Canada, forget the second part :D )

Not a bad month so far, though a couple of these have been in the works since May:

New and correct set of wood for my 1942 Savage, she's all correct now.

1942 Long Branch No.4, all correct. I bought it for my Dad for Father's day, his mom worked as an inspector at Long Branch during the war years and I thought he might like a representational piece of her handiwork. Plus I get to play with another No.4 now. ;)
Thanks a bunch to Cantom on the boards who put up with my nagging questions and helped me find a bunch of correct pieces I needed. LEts just hope Dad doesn't get a forum account.

And finally, bit of an Oddity. Officially it's a Type 91 Police Carbine, issued to the Thai Police. Less than 2500 were made for the SIamese (Thai) police and army. THis is one of 5 known to exist that is Siamese police, rather than army, issue.

(Check out how tiny it really is, next to my M1 Carbine for comparison...)
