Just a quick question. When closing the bolt on my No.5, with about a centimeter or so left to go, it tightens up. Not so tight as to require smacking the hell out of it to close it, but it does need a litte bit of gumption to move on home. Now I'm new to this sport/hobby and don't have much experience in the way of bolt action rifles, let alone any rifle. So is this normal?

Are you referring to the effort needed to compress the mainspring? These rifles are "#### on closing".

Have you had the bolt apart recently?
Could be that you didn't screw the bolt head in properly and it's having trouble closing.

I don't think it could be possible: a full turn of these coarse threads and the bolthead would be out by more than 1/16", precluding bolt from closing.
I tend to stick to the first option: the resistance is that of the firing pin spring compressing.
If you lift the handle, does the bolt shoot backwards by itself? if so, it is the compressed spring returning to its relaxed state.
Everything is normal.

No I haven't had the bolt apart, and yes the bolt shoots backwards when i lift the handle. So happy happy joy joy, it's normal!
