I have a question for the guys who know Lee-Enfield accessories:

I just bought this J-C and the case was included... it's stamped 1941, and the pocket is up-side-down compared to a hunting style case... ie; it opens opposite direction of case.
Total length w/flap open = 46.5"
Closed = 42"

Is it specifically for the #5?

These bags were very common here at one time (they can still sometimes be found for the equivalent of a couple of beaver bucks, although eBay is changing that). This one appears to be unaltered, which is in itself unusual; most surplus dealers sewed a carrying strap into them. This one had a Sten sling used for the purpose (very common).

At one time these were almost the only thing that was available, and they were variously extended and gusseted for other rifles. I have found more than a few that were too short to be done up, and the dates on them were long before the carbine was thought of. Someone was asleep at the quality control stage.

Maybe some No4 cases were altered to fit the No5 ?
The length of the No4 is 44.5"
" " No5 is 39.5"
Burnt45's case is 42" closed ...there's no room for a No4 in that case.

My pops has a no5 and has this exact case for it. It is too long in length for the no5, The tie down strap holds the rifle better if you extend it to the ring on the mag pouch flap though I found. I do not have a sling or anything on it. That canvas material sure is some durable stuff. Btw this is the fiirst firearm I have ever shot, at the ripe old age of about 10yrs. Boy was I scared of rifles until I got into the cadet program as a kid, that thing put a hurtin on my cheek . He still has it and lets me take it out to the range. I love the lees....

I gave it a closer look: the stitching looks pretty consistent,... if any mods were done they date back quite a while.
The manufacturer stamp is something like "M & S Ltd ###"... I'll try match it up later.

Thanks for the comments guys!
