Jungle Carbine magazine

I pulled the magazine for my No 5 carbine, it is not numbered to the gun but it has the following stamped on the bottom:
CC 16321 Also it has two little projections on the back under the catch. I have never seen these little bumps before. So, is the number consistent with a No5 and is this the rare mag for this gun?

Sounds like a serial number, but with 5 digits its not a No5 s/n as they only used up to 4 digits.

Definitely need a picture - this could be a rare magazine (or not) - is it lighter than a regular No4 rifle mag? - There were some experimental mags made for No5 rifles. If you have a rare mag, we also need pics of the No5 - there are some oddball rarities in the No5 family.

the 2 bumps are meant to fit the mag to the rifle, they could be filed until the mag fit snugly

Oops, sorry, typo, serial number is CC 1631. I have seen and handled hundreds of Mk 4 magazines, never one with the two little projections on the back.
I'll try and put up pics, but I am having problems with my PC

There are No. 4 magazines with the little bumps. Don't know if filing to fit was ever done during original assembly; sort of doubt it.
Sounds as if the magazine is simply a replacement previously used in a No. 4 rifle.

I think you'll find the mag is originally for Savage.

So CC 1631 is not a carbine serial number?

Apart from the mark on the rib, looks like 5 in a square, is it? And is that a real No 5 magazine? Any marks in the rib on my mag have been worn off, there was something there.
The bumps are the same as mine.

Or is that the stylized s for Savage, not a 5?

Square S is the mark for Savage. Those are the magazines that you see with the bumps. Your magazine is a replacement previously used in a No. 4 rifle.
And a Savage rifle would not have a serial number with a CC prefix. Now if it was 0C, that could be the prefix of a Savage rifle made in 1944, just after production passed one million.
