I have a .303 Jungle Carbine which is a beautiful rifle, but was sporterized somewhat. The bayonet lug was milled off of the flash hider.
Can anyone tell me if the flash hider can be replaced on the barrel, and does anyone have a cherry one to sell if so?

Does the no. 7 bayonet fit the Jungle Carbine, or only the purpose built Jungle Carbine bayonet?

... The Bayonet is a "purpose built " one... from memory the scabbard is either the same , or very close, to the one used with the L1A1 rifle. As to the lug/flash hider, try the big suppliers in the States, and before you do, contact some of the Military/surplus rifle dealers here in Canada. Western Gun Parts in Alberta come first to mind, and Milarm, plus no doubt others will come to your aid with recommendations. In the US, Numrich,Brownell's, Sarco come quickly to mind. Also, there's at least one company that's producing a form of Jungle carbine, and they might be worth contacting ... Gibbs?? I think ..Good luck, and it's worth trying your best to restore the carbine ! ... David K.l

I have a flash hider for a No.5 Jungle Carbine, if you are interested, pm me.

Jungle Carbine Bayonet

The No 5 bayonet will fit two common types of firearms the British SMG Sterling, and the No5 Jungle Carbine. The Canadian SMG (Sterling Variant) uses the C1 Bayonet to make it more versatile. You can find No5 bayonets on the net at a reasonable price. If you aren't particular, the Indian manufactured No5 bayonet is a well made and looks good on your No5. The same scabbard for the No5 bayonet is interchangeable with the FN L1A1, C1A1, No9, and No7 bayonets.
Hope this helps.

Thanks. I saw an ad for RFI Indian made new No. 5 bayos in the US. Around $50 US, but less than excitingly original...kind of a sister kisser type of deal. Mil Spec quality? I wonder. Still, a lot cheaper than $225 from Collector's Armoury...

There's a no 7 bayo on ebay, he's claiming it fits Jungle Carbine because it has the big hole, and he's made me wonder. The hole wouldn't be needed for the No. 4 rifle...what's it for?
Someone on here has both a no 7 bayo and a Jungle Carbine eh??

The only thing unoriginal about the RFI bayonets is that they weren't made in England or Canada or Denmark etc. India made those up to British specs as well as No5 conversions, I don't know if India made No5 rifles or not. bearhunter

I tried pmailing you and it bounced.

How hard it is to switch flash hiders on a Jungle Carbine? Anyone know?

How much for your new flash hider?

Look at your flashider. There will be two pins which secure it to the barrel. They will have to be removed. They were not intended to be removed. Might be fun getting them out. Once they are out, tap the hider off the barrel.

No 5 Bayonet

The large ring was retained on the No7 because there is movement between the socket and the rest of the bayonet. The movement could be enough to interfere with the bullet exiting the barrel. If there was a small ring on it the bullet would strike the metal and damage it. There are a few No7 bayonets with a small ring on them but they are for the EM2 bull pup experimental rifles. I have one of the No7 EM2 bayonets in my collection.

I took a flash hider off once - It came off easily. The second one I tried, I gave up on - she wouldn't move come hell or high water!

Kinda depends on how tight those wee pins are in there!

Are they tapered pins like on an AR sight base? Once the pins are driven out, the hider should just knock off with a brass drift?

I have been offered a flash hider from a no 4 to no 5 conversion. I fear that might be a different size, which fits the no 4 barrel but is different than the stock no 5 carbine size. Anyone know?

Rifle Factory Ishapore never made No.5 rifles, they were only ever made at ROF Fazackerly and at BSA. RFI may have done some FTRs on No.5s so you could find their stamp on some examples.

Now you know, Bearhunter.
