I guess I'll have to tackle a tanker project sooner or later but at the moment I have two other LE-related refurbs to do for two CGN members, so... ah, what a life :)

Better value than a thousand dollar Ruger 77 Scout with Plastic parts.

Handy size, tough as nails, and you'll not be afraid to take it to the woods and shoot the snot out of it. Nice project.

Glad that the LE fun is keeping you busy. One of these years I would love to learn how to do some Tanker conversions....Always a cool looking project!

Lee Enfields have to be one of the best bush guns (Jungle Carbines) going. Double stack magazine that can be topped up by clips, individual rounds, removing the magazine. Bombproof receivers make them tough as heck.

What's not to like (even if I am a .308 Win snob) ? I'm getting used to the .303 British!

I like that idea, but my understanding is that I have to source a barrel (or have one cut from a blank Douglas, Shilen, etc, etc), have it installed and headspaced, then have an extractor (find one first) installed, and finally locate a .308 Stirling (sp?) magazine. That sound about right?

Lots cheaper for me to just "don't worry, be happy" with my pile of .303 reloading gear and components and "have at 'er".

Well, maybe I don't really know how easy it is to rebarrel to .308/7.62mm NATO? :cool:

Any thoughts out there?

Nice job guys, all of them. The No. 5 has always been a favorite of mine. The first two I had I foolishly sold but not long ago, I picked up two more. The first is near mint and I was lucky enough to get an original bayonet;), just to 'add to' the aesthetics of the package a little.

The first one belonged to the father of a shooting buddy and the following one was my buddies. This second one looked a little rough so he offered it to me as a parts gun. I thought I'd clean it up a little first and if that wasn't successful, a parts gun it would be. The metal work wasn't too bad actually and when I cleaned up the wood, it didn't look too bad at all. It has an after market butt stock on it, bishop I believe, but I have the original as well. I put an S&K scope mount on it so I wouldn't have to any drilling and tapping to mount a scope and now use this 'package' for load testing.

Thats the one! wonder how that would look with a no5 buttstock and 18.5 barrel? how many of them did you make any way Beater?

well,,, ive kinda lost count , but i think around 30 of them. laitly i have been putting my stamp on them, so when i see em again, i dont have to wonder. as to the JC buttstock, i have done that, but dont like it. also, 18.5 " i dont like, now 20" isnt that much more, but it makes a diff. not so much flame, anyways
its a very good thing to do with a nice sporter #4 thats had 2" of its bbl removed.
