Had my JC out to the range today. Sweet rifle to shoot, kick's not too bad.
One note though.......I think somethings amiss with my sights :confused: . At 100 yds, she's not on the paper. I don't think she made the target stand :eek: . I then shot @ 25 to she what the hell was going on. To even get her on paper, I had to put the front blade at the very top of the peep sight, and then it was a guess from there for the target.

The front blade is stamped +075
The whole front unit looks high to me. Maybe the beer's kicking in?

The rear sight is stamped P CR318 on the left side.

Are these sights correct for a JC?
Anybody got an idea why she's so damn low?
I was using factory ammo for this. Federal 150 gr.

I have no idea what the orange crud is on the bottom of the rear sight.

In some other photos, the rear sight looks 'different' (darker?) under the harsh light of the flash. Don't really see it in the daylight. Possibly replaced and is wrong?

My buddy just tried out his Jungle Carbine. He said it shot away low, actually shot better with the flip up sight in bottom position than with the battle sight. Did you try both? He is looking for a lower front sight too. Bill
 
Not sure if this is any help to you, but just a quick eyeball of your front sight leads me to believe it is a bit high. I checked on mine, which has same markings, except the top of the sight is stamped .03. Not sure if this indicates blade height or not. Actual micrometer height of blade is .102in from top rear of front blade to its 90degree base(top). This has been deadly accurate for me over the years. Heres hoping you get it figured out.

It is quite likely that you could do with a shorter foresight blade, IF you are going to use the 150gr ammo regularly. If not, just crank up some yardage on the rear sight to compensate until you get back to using 174gr "milspec" loads.

And, no offence intended, but that "orange stuff" looks an awful lot like rust(!). It could, however, also just be dried up old cosmoline goo?

to me it looks like someone has taken the high front sight and silver soldered on a chunk to make it an extra higher blade. I just cant think of why it has the little step in the back, and the odd shiney bits there.

I think changing the front dovetail sight is going to be your best option

Got to agree with you. That front sight just looks WRONG. Was thinking using a file on that front sight to remove the add on would be a quick fix.
Front sights are adjusted for height by the thickness of the base, not the blade and you have what looks like the thickest base.
