Just a note

Hey WP,
good to hear from you buddy.ls the suppressed MP5 in your work locker? I though they were semi. If so that is pretty slick!

Stay cool:cool:

Has anyone ever rebuilt one with a longer barrel without the ports and then integral sup on top? Same overall size and look?

IIRC the MP5 has issues with full power 147gr due to its roller locking system. Which is one of the reasons nobody has built an SD without the ported barrel. Not totally sure on that one though. The subgun has kind of been left behind by short barreled 5.56mm PDW type weapons.

I can tell you that the nifty square section suppressor module doesn't work all that well. The SD does not compare well to more modern designs. Some of the best 9mm integrals are flirting with SPL's below 120 dB which is quieter than some suppressed .22 pistols. And that is FREAKIN quiet.

Any RCMP issued SD's should be running the original German made square section suppressor internals. If they were smart, they'd let me rebuild them to something better. ;)

Now that would be cool. The one I was playing with is not RCMP owned but another agency. I doubt that they will be sending them out for upgrades though. If you can say, what would you do to them?

Upgraded baffle stack more suitable to a low pressure, large volume can.

Prob the biggest issue with the original square section baffle stack is that high pressure gas can travel all the way forward between the tube and the baffle stack and then re-enter the stack and vent out the front without much interference.

A stack of individual full diameter baffles works better. There are also certain kinds of baffles that are more efficient with a large volume, low pressure system. I did a 9mm subgun can that metered around 121 dB which is roughly 10 dB quieter than the original MP5SD. At that level the thing is stupid quiet and all you really hear is the clack-clack of the action and then the thud of the bullet hitting.
