If you are planning a trip to the USA to attend a match don't do it if you were exposed to any nuclear material in last 30-90 days.... you'll set off alarms and have about 15 US Border Patrol agents swarm your car with guns drawn..... and if you have a gun in the car holy s**t they get very uptight. Make sure all your paper work is valid and correct....
I was injected with nuclear isotopes last week for a proceedure and was told it wouldn't be a problem for today to cross border but let me tell you it was enough to set off the alarms. They told me to get out of car and before I could tell them I had my gun in the car all I heard was "GUN!!!" well 3.5 hrs later they let me go on my way....
It was interesting but scary at same time.... after everything was cleared up they thanked me for my patience and wished me luck at the match... and I should be prepared for similar occurances for up to 90 days..I told them it was too late for the match and I'd be going home..... At least they didn't deny me entry it could have put a damper on future visits..... Anyone want to carpool to DSC next weekend??? LOL

What I DO like about the Americans is that don't freak out at the idea of civilians with guns. There is a very clear distinction between someone having guns for 'bad' reasons/purposes, and someone just having guns. They always assume the worst, of course, at the border/etc, but once it was established that you were the latter, everything was cool....

In Canada, there is no such distinction, for most part - all guns are bad, all people with guns are bad, etc, etc. In the end, they might be forced to tolerate you, but it's always with an attitude (for most part, on the high, general, level, I'm sure not all cops are like that, seeing how some are here with us ;) ).:bangHead:
 
Normally transporting guns through Border isn't much of a hassle in my experience... usually in and out under 15mins....I guess it was the combination of Nuclear alarm and gun that put them in a very suspicious mood... rightly so...
 
You didn't miss much. Lots of rain and mud, 24 new RO's running the stages to finish off their course and the stages were not at LGC's usual level
 
I was literally 12 minutes crossing the border in December with my revolver and 3000 rounds. I am willing to bet I will be alot longer going north bound in a few weeks!!!!!!
 
Yes, there have been a few articles in the paper about people crossing after receiving radiography procedures. One old guy was very pissed off at not being told to watch-out by his doctor
 
I can't blame the yanks for being a little "touchy" about nuke stuff. Only a little can do a lot...in a BAD way.

So long as your paperwork's in order, you should be good to go.

I don't blame them... I totally understand it.... I was just giving everyone who travels to the sstates for competitions a heads up... plan ahead and give yourself time....
