Very nice rifle. Light and easy to handle. Seems like it would be easy to lug around. Yes, it is 45/70. I picked it up at Ellwood Epps. Will post a pic and let you know how it shoots thursday.

Just put 20 rounds through it and my new M14s. Very impressed with both. The loading port on the 1895G is very stiff but I assume that will ease with use. Seems to be a good sized muzzle flash with the 1895G...I would love to see it at night:D Good recoil on both but nothing nasty...my shoulder's just a little tender. I'm not a very experienced shooter so I can't comment on accuracy but both rifles suprised me. It almost seemed like I knew what I was doing:D

Good stuff Rubikahn. cant wait to see some pics, throw up some pics of your m14's as well. Your port should loosen up nicley, check for excess oil in there too as sometimes they grease the crap out of them before shipping.
Did your 1895g come with ability to mount a scope? or picatiny rail.

Time to get yourself reloading and get some nice heavy loads down that pipe. Factory 45/70 loads are lacking in almost every department. If you like using your rifles full potential, reloads are the only way to go.

Lots of fun, good luck! :D

Nice. I'd like a new Marlin with the traditional rifled barrel in .45-70 to shoot cast lead loads out of...

Regarding micro-groove rifling: Shooting cast in my 444 Marlin and 45-70 with micro rifling worked really well. Tried cast in a Marlin 44 mag with Ballard rifling and the results were disappointing. hmmmm

Sorry for the hijack

Sure it wasnt the opposite?

I had posted this in another post as well...

De-Bunking Myths

A myth has circulated for years that Marlin's Micro-Groove barrels would not shoot cast bullets. This myth has some truth but is not entirely correct. The real truth is Marlin's Micro-Groove barrels are selective about which cast bullets they'll shoot.

Well I did a quick look of their site and it looked like a hard cast bullet manufacture site. I then re-visited the website and saw that wasn't how it was.

Thats ok, atleast I admit I am a noob
