No, the first SVT-40 bayonets were made with the cutting edge up. Not sure when the cutting edge was changed to down. Sometime in 1940? The SVT-38 bayonets are much longer. You CGNer's have any more info on this? Thanks.

Nice bayonet. I just bought one from a fellow in Ontario that looks to be in pretty much the same original condition as yours. Except of course mine is blade down. The fellow does have an original with blade up but isn't ready to part with it yet. And yep, the early SVT 40's had bade up.

how much did it set you back?
After the exchange and our glorious customs charge on top(GEE, WE HAVE TO SUPPORT OUR WORTHLESS BUMS ON WELFARE WEDNESDAY) it cost me about $350... yes I know, the cost of an SVT rifle but hey, this bayo is pretty rare and sweet...

No, I got mine from a dealer in Texas. He has two more but the blade side down. He also has an SVT-38/40 short blade bayo too but it is pretty pricey. Here is a pic of it here and he want's $475 for it. I paid $265 for mine. The main difference between mine and this other one he has is the wood is a bit beat up on mine and my scabbard is missing the belt loop. I think I got a good deal and if I could afford it I'd buy the other blade side up too as they are very rare...

Very nice! I like it

On the same note, have we figured out the difference of blade up and blade down?

Mine is blade down and the scabbard doesn't have the tit at the end...

I'll see if I can figure out how to post a picture this weekend

The blade up version basically is the SVT-38 bayonet but shorter. It was made in early 1940 and then the blade down was then produced. At some point in time the scabbard changed from the tear drop to the flat end. Later in the war the blades were also blued. I'd appreciate more info on this guys if you have it such as why they changed from blade up to blade down...
