Found out its hard to get any good Varmint rifle in the begining of the varmint season. So when talking I saw a nice looking Laminate CZ 550 in 22-250 with bases and rings for a great deal.

Put a Bushnell 3200 Elite 7-21x40 on it.
Its got an adjustable trigger down to 2lbs.

I'm not a huge fan of the stock, but its leaps and bounds past the Savage stocks.
What are some good accessories that I need? and what bipod should I get?

congrats...let us know how it shoots. I'm thinking about the shooters ridge bipod...maybe the harris

I have teh 9,13" harris ther great for prone or off a bench but thats about it, be sure to get the swivel ones it so much easier when not on level ground. be sure to report back once your get to fire it, Im looking at possibly getting one for yote hunting

I dont know if I would shoot anything different then bench and prone though, would I?

I got the chance to put 6 groups of 3 and 3 groups of 5 out while sighting in.

And I must say, I am very glad I got this over the savage and even the 700.

once I got it dialed in I did the 5 shot groups and all 3 I could cover with dime easy, looks more like 2 shots then 5.

Mind you this is at 40 yards only because of the indoor range but soon I will get it out.

I will be leaving it at the range for a bit till I get a case for it. My Condo is full of old people, so bringing a rifle in with a jacket over it might not go over so well.

I'll get pics from the range tonight if I make it out there, but can get pics of my target tonight for sure.

I kinda wish I got a more powerfull scope then 6-21x40 though, lol
Even at 40 meters or yards or whatever it is I had it at 21, and thinking, damn at 300 meters or 500 even its going to be like 40 meters at lik 10x or so I figure.

I also dont know how to 0 for 200 meters while only shooting 40 meters, I used some balistics chart and I think it said that if I want to 0 for 200 at 40 meters it will be low .14"
Right now its pretty much just 0 for 40 meters though.

Also how hot should I only let the barrel get? it was warm to the toutch but never hot enough to be "hot" to the back of my hand.
I treid to give 3-5 minutes between groups, and would do the groups in a couple minutes.

about the bipods. for varminting it all depends what the grounds like cause the 9-13"" bipods are only good with fairly low grass. at my sisters farm i take my bipods off half way through the summer cause teh grass gets to long but at my cousins farm i can shoot with them all year long. it just depends on what the field is like.

your scope will be fine, it more tehn enough to wack things out to 300 yards. Last year me and my cousin were shooting his savage 22 250 out to 296 yards ( there odd ball ranges cause we just set the target out and walk away then range them) witha 4-12x40 and once you got it dialed it it was hits everythime. we took a yote with is 22 250 at 278 yards with his 4-12x40last year. He bout a 6.5-24x56 for this year cause gophers get preaty small at 300 yards. last weekend I wacked a popcan with my 17hmr witha 4-12x40 at 232 lasered yards. so your scope should be large enough.

I would love to see pictures also.
Do you have the single set trigger? do you use it if you have it?

So what do you do when you take the bipod off? jsut shoot from a bench? I was thinking if needed I could shoot off the hood of my jeep?

I will get pics tonight.
I dont know what the single set trigger is, all I know is its adjustable, I just made it as light as I could, and I like it. (figure around 2 lbs).

Now I just need to find a field with gophers in it around edmonton, havent seen any yet.

I just really need a bipod, this sucker is way to heavy to hit anything smaller then a barn standing up. or I guess a couple sand bags will work too, jsut throw them on my hood, lol (I only say my hood of the jeep because its about perfect hieght for me to have the rifle on and lean the way I am comfortable.

Ok I forgot my camera so no pics :(
But I will soon.

I got a 9-13" bipod and I must say it took me a few groups to get the groups small. By the 5th group of 4 they were more or less in the same hole. So I am happy, cant wait to get to shoot it past 40 yards.

when i take teh bipod off i shoot off hand cause its not too heavy a rifle.

the single set trigger

#### the bolt then push forward on the trigger if the trigger goes forward then its in its single set mode and reduces the pull to around 8oz then just pull back on the trigger to fire. you have to push it forward everytime you want to use the single set function or just #### the bolt and pull the trigger to fire as normal.

hmm I hope i have it, I will have to stop by the range and see.

man I need to buy a case so I can bring it home too.

Is there a way to tell if I have the single set trigger without testing? I know it has a screw by the trigger that sets the pull. but havent treid pushing it forward.

Hey jeff, That .22-250 you have it has the greeny colored stock right?

The single set trigger, you push the trigger forwards, then its "set" roughly 12 ounzes, or so.... the trigger is really crisp. Like slayer said....

By the way, you said you shot it at 40yrds indoors, that sounds like Phoenix range in Edmonton.... You buy it from there? I know there worth about a grand plus rings and bases... So probably 1100 or so....

Anything under that would be cool..

I use a versapod on my .22-250 i like the pannin action...

Its got a greyish stock, but has a little green in it I think.
I did buy it from phoenix :)
I got it for 825 plus the scope, I couldnt personally tell it had been shot, but was told it was lightly used.

I also got the versapod, and really like it, the panning helps when you dont have the legs exactly the same lenght too, lol.

Are you in Edmonton?

Cant wait to get out and get me some gophers.

I looked at it in Phoenix, but ended up with a Tikka HB in .22-250. Put a Nightforce 5.5X22X56 with the NPR2 reticle on it...

Went with the Tikka cause nobody had 30mm rings immediatly available for the CZ.... By the way thats a BOYDs stock on that unit. I think you can get a stock from Macmillan.... If you check out the boyds gunstock web site, im pretty sure youll agree that it is a boyds... When I looked at the cz Im pretty sure that the action was glass bedded??!! i noticed some residue on the sides of the action/bbl that caused me to beleive it was....Little bit of glass visable..

Hmm your right it is the Boyds Target Varminter, I will have to look and see if it is glass bedded or not for sure tomorrow though, you wouldnt happen to remember if it was a single set trigger would you?

I think I got a really good deal, esspecially now that I know its a boyd stock.

are u sure its a boyd stock or just the stock CZ varmint laminate.

Also what kind of rings are you using? is the reciver drilled and tapped for bases or do you have to use special CZ rings to clamp in they dove tails?

That rifle is the Boyd stock, this rifle has had glass bedding done.
I am pretty sure it has luepold rings and bases, but now that you say I am not 100% sure.

No they are the dovetail CZ rings.... I'm pretty sure.. I remember looking at it....

Went out and shot 100 rounds from my cz204 and 100 from my .22-250, and 200 for my .17HMR..... Gophers galore...!!!!!

Rippem apart.....

Brad

The regular CZ laminate stock is a made for CZ-USA by Boyds..... Even though if you check with boyds they wont sell you one with the inletting for it....

I really like the stock after holding a few other rifles. And the single set trigger is AWESOME!
