I picked up a Left-hand Husqvarna .30-06 today from consignment at a gun show.
I tried cycling some used brass and it won't extract! Upon further inspection, the brass fits very loosely in the bolt face. With a caliper, the inside of the bolt face measures .541", while the .30-06 rims are .463". The extractor barely engages the rim if at all when the case is centred on the face. Alarm bells are going off here, because it's my understanding that the layers of case/bolt/action should all be closely contacting each other.
I can't tell what exact model it is, nor can I find any detailed info at all about these rifles. This one appears to be a higher-end model because of the fancy stock. The stamping on the action just says:
"HVA - Carl Gustaf - Sweden
Förenade Fabriksverken"
Serial is in the 62###x range. The last 4 numbers of the serial are on the bolt as well.
The stampings on the barrel say "Nitro .30-06". The "nitro" stamp kind of confuses me. It doesn't look like a rebarrel job, but why else would the bolt not fit the caliber it's chambered for? The barrel contour fits the stock, the finish smoothly matches the action, and there is a properly-indexed dovetail for a rear sight with a plug in it.
I hope I'm missing something here, the gun was one of those "love at first sight" sort of things. As with women, I guess I always fall for the messed up ones.
Anyone who can help me with this dilemma, or just provide some information about the rifle in general, has my sincere appreciation.
