Hey all!

So I was at Epps today and just couldn't help but pick up one of these beauties before they all get snapped up. Looking for gun leather though, I checked Desantis (out of stock), Bianchi and Galco all seem to be back ordered. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'd prefer IWB strong side (right), high ride with a forward cant, preferably in tan. If anyone knows where I could find something like this I'd be forever in your debt!

Cheers!

For IWB Id consider a hybrid Kydex/leather option.....there are quite a few out there these days but Cross Bread was one of the first.
These guys look pretty good and they list the S&W N frame .44 in their catalog.

There are many Crossbreed look-a-likes some slicker than others in appearance. I like dealing with Comptac. They have a model called the Minotaur MTAC. I'm not sure they make revolver models but check with them as they are very customer oriented. The feature I like is that their holster allows you to switch bodies so you could have one holster for several guns. with use, the backing leather of this type of holster molds to your body to a degree and they are reportedly very comfortable.

Post many pictures please! I would love to get one of the 4.2" 686's but I promised the wife I'd wait a while, even though the last gun I bought was for her. Strange how that works.

Can-down, Hercster - thanks for the info...I never even considered a kydex/leather combo rig. I have no experience with kydex holstersthough. How is the Kydex on the finish? Will it scratch up my gun?

Powder, WRH - For sure, I'm planning on a full review late this week, I'll try and include up close pics as well as some range shots :D

Contrary to some popular opinion, and under certain circumstances, leather can cause more wear than Kydex. Even the soft lined holsters collect abrasive dust and dirt. Kydex can be washed. You will hear arguments on both sides. Everything depends on usage. If you are going to shoot IDPA you will get wear. The Hybrid holsters are usually designed for concealment where the frequency of drawing is much less. If you are going to shoot IPSC then my preference is for a "speed" holster as contact with the gun is far less. The only place on my 1911 that is worn is the trigger guard where the holster "locks".

Scratch, no.

Wear finish, yes. (as Can-down stated).

As your gun is SS, finish wear is not really an issue.

I, as well as Hercster, have found leather bound (blued) guns show wear faster than kydex ones.

All holsters will wear the finish if they are drawn a lot....is it a blue gun or stainless?

Stainless, so finish wear shouldn't be a huge problem, I'd imagine it would just get polished in certain places by a leather holster.

As per Bollox and Hercster, it seems that my concerns about kydex are unfounded, so I'll consider both (I still prefer the look and feel of leather, I don't plan to compete with this gun but I may take it with me to the US when I travel to hunt :D)

The hybrid holsters are very comfortable and it's going to end up thinner then a leather holster which will be good for your revolver as it is already wide for IWB.
I'd take a chance on the link I posted above.... I may order a few from him in horsehide. Good price.
