Just bought me a guide gun.

CFC for approval eh.... hope you like to wait! What a racket those guys are running!!

I started a transfer on a used run of the mill Remington 1100 back in August... i'm still waiting!

I called everyday for like three weeks, until they finally basiclly told me to stop calling as it was going to take a few months due to the backlog. What sucks even more was that I had it sold and paid for to a fellow CGNer. What a bunch of overpaid pricks. Sorry about the rant, but it just burns me that I am being treated like a criminal and screwed arond with for a simple non-restricted when it used to be so easy.

Anyways, rant off, and congrats on your new gun. It's going to be a blast... literally. There have been a few threads in sights, reloading, and other cool stuff here on CGN during the past few months. I set mine up with the XS Ghost ring sights and am VERY happy. Also ordered the XS scope mount at the same time, though I still have t get a scout scope to try it out. If you do decide to go the XS route, Willwagspal has the best prices and service for them this side of the US border. Make up some stout handloads and get out there!

I've heard that, too.
Bummer about the CFC problem. Every dealing I've had with them has been fast and easy - I was at another CGNer's house today picking up a 10/22 and it took literally 3 or 4 minutes and the deal was done.
ANYWAY!
Nice purchase! I'm looking at one of these (.44 RM):

......................i sold an FR8 Spanish Mauser last month and it went to the CFO for approval. It took 4 days. Approvals have never taken longer than 7 days for me.

I have the same rifle. Stainless though. I had a muzzle brake and a super soft Limbsaver recoil pad put on it. XS Ghost rings and you can shoot it all day long! The smithy cut the brake length out of the barrel first so it stays nice and short as well. Gotta love the old cannon.....its a still one of my fav's. Enjoy it. :)

I removed the factory bowling ball pad material and installed a Limbsaver pad immediately.

I find that with the factory ports and the Limbsaver, it doesn't recoil any more than my 30-06.

In fact, the -06 seems to have a snappier kick. The GG is more of a slower push...

The XS ghost ring set for the 1895 works well for me and I'll be trying out the scout scope mount in my guide gun. For sure, you may want to have your gunsmith smooth out the action and do a trigger job. Have fun with your new Big Bore!:)

Any gunsmithing required for that XS Ghostring sight? I've had my GG for about three years now, and I've had it with the crappy stock sights.

don;t worry about a brakes or porting. A Limbsaver pad alone makes my .450 kick like a pussycat. Good puchase,, welcome to the .458 club :)
Give the Willam's FP sights a try too, with a Firesight front post. I prefered mine to the XS system.

Try some 350gr Hornaday FN's pushed to 2100fps. you'll love em :D

.............they re not ported anymore from the factory.

I know, and that may be a good thing. I haven't tried a shot "ears off" to see what the field muzzle blast might be like, but the adjacent shooters at the range lifted an eyebrow when I switched from my .22 to the GG during my last range session

I cut a doe fawn in half with mine this year @ 50 yards.
Allmost literallly... 300 Gr Hp @ 1850 hit just below the spine and took out the top of the lung, and tore a patch clear through the other side.
It looked like it was cut with a 1.5 inch dado blade right down through the spine. ON a similar note, my buddy shot the doe @ 100 yards or so with my Model 94 in 356. 250 gr factory loads nearly ruined the off shoulder, and turned the lungs to spaghetti soup. She went 75 yards, and piled up right infront of one of our other guys that was dogging through.
