Hello all,

I don't post much, kind of a lurker looking for info but I am too excited not to let you all know...

Well I've done it. I'm pretty excited about this buy and am looking forward to plinking off thousands of rounds...

I bought my first "Black" gun The Armalite 180B.

My collection is small but it will grow!!

I started off small but like I said my collection will grow.

First I have my good ol trusty REM7600 30-06 Pump Hunting rifle.
Second I went out on a limb and bought the M305. (I think its awsome!! When I pull it out at the range people stare hehe)
Now I'll have my AR-180B on Tuesday :) Life is grand. Oh and get this my wife is paying for it.

Now...what mods should I get?

Thanks,

Ken.

Now you've done it, you just stepped into a major 'poo' puddle you know the kind that never ever gets out of the cracks in your shoes, and you have your wife to blame (which is a good thing, you can bring it up when she questions your next purchases :D ). At least the black rifle stink smells sweet, snif...ahhhh! 8) it is very addictive to say the least. I don't own the AR-180B but do have AR-15, although not many accessories are available yet, I am sure that will change. Good shootin and have fun. 8)

Congrats on the new toy! Fire Armedsask a PM (although I'm sure he'll be along soon enough). He's the resident AR180B pimp and knows a few things you can and can not do with/to it.

Can I borrow your wife for a day or so? I need her to educate my better half! :D

Sorry I'm late, was working the community trade show.

First of all, the most important mod that you must do is make it reliable (if it already isn't). Some rifles can have minor feeding issues with certain magazines. With minor work you can make it fire 100%. I have never had an FTF or FTE since I did some little tweaks to my rifle.

The next mod that is a must do is optics mounts (if you want optics). DO NOT use the factory rings, pure junk. Grab yourself a QD rail from www.stormwerkz.com. Another option (IMO, the better one) is to remove that obortion of a mounting plate from the top of the reciever and drill and tap a picatinny base to the top of the rifle. I'm in no way saying the Storm Werkz mount is bad, its the mounting plate that is the weak link. They have been know to be loose or even crooked (this may have since been fixed).

Once you get those must do mods, you can start looking at new stocks, a flash suppressor, handguards, grips, all that fun stuff. The sky is the limit if you aren't afraid to do some work.

Check here for some tips. Hopefully I can get it updated.

Armedsask, nice to see ya posting my pimp rifle, she looks good doesn't she, I should send pics of the recent changes, just too lazy to get them on the computer. Kenco, don't be afraid to add some pieces to the new smoke pole, and have fun cappin' gophers.

Had one for awhile (Eugene Stoner is God- look it up) not much available for yet for this gem, but Armedsask is the guy to go to for AR180B mods.

This is a great non restricted .223 alternative to the AR15.

Buy mags !

sooo...where do I get some nice 30rnd Mags. It just doesn't look complete without them.. :)

Lcq (Brian) What Ammo do you use? Mr. Sask says he only uses mil surplus (according to his site)

P.S.

Thanks ArmedSask for the info. I checked out your site right away. I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions to ask once I get the gun and start using it. For example how to take it down , proper cleaning etc. I'm sure the insturctions that come with it if any are of much use...

Again,

Thanks,

Jason.

Mags? If you can find them right here on CGN the try wolverinesupplies.com They got a good deal on 5/30 round AR mags. I just bought three off BBB myself for my AR-180B

Good to see another 180B owner!

I am about 500 rds into my new 180B.

takedown... read the manual ... also read the sighting in ... if yours is new, there is a procedure - I have mine sighted for my crossed eyes and I am doing about 2.5 to 3.0 inch groups at 50 yards - on the irons and my poor shooting technique.

Also don;t be too generous on oiling your bolt carrier - I juiced mine up good and it finds its way out, into your eyes or onto your shooting glasses! Too little and the bolt will stick though.

Good Luck - let us know how accurate your new little rifle is!

I actually use 55gr Amerian Eagle, not really mil surplus.

I hardly oil my carrier. One drop of oil in the bolt, one drop of oil on each recoil spring, that's it.

I'm a AR180B noob so be gentle. Would you be able to mount a detachable carry handle on top of an AR180B and an AR front sight on the barrel just forward of the handguard (kind of a AR15/180B combo)? If so, would it be effective and more importantly, how would it look?

I can handle crappy performance but I gotta look cool. 8)

Before you ask "why would you want to?", please remember that I'm just thinking out loud.

Is the mount plate supposed to be welded on? My AR-180B is drilled and tapped and the plate is held in place by two screws. I have one of thoes Leaper's scopes mounted on mine with the see-threw mount. It's the 4x32 one with the illuminated red/green rectical. When I do my part I can get 2" groupings or less with the winchester 55gr FMJ.

As far as I know that mounting plate should be welded? Is it a used rifle?

As for a carry handle, anything is possible with a little work, I don't see why you couldn't mount one. I thought about slapping one on my rifle, just to see how it looks, never did.
