Just bought my first black rifle (XCR questions)

I broke mine in with 55gr. american eagle and had gas dial turned down to 1 after 80 rounds. That's the only setting I use now unless I turn it off completely. And no loctite either.

Yeah I did less than 100 rounds on gas setting 4 as well. The break in isn't really meant to be mandatory, its basically just meant to ensure trouble free operation for the first couple hundred rounds while some of the sharp edges wear on the parts. I am running reloads that are a little lighter than American Eagle, so I have been running mine with good results on gas setting 2. I have about 2000 rounds through it and have only had 4 stoppages. Two were on gas setting 1 with the lighter reloads and the other two were in the first 10 rounds put through a brand new LAR-15 Mag.

Loctite is definitely optional, the only part I have had loosen on mine was the ambidexterous selector switch. I noticed it on the first day of a 2 day, 700 round carbine course, so I tightened it up with an allen key and haven't had a problem since.

When I got mine I started out on gas 4, for a bit, down and down and she's been on 1 since day 1. Lower setting is easier on the gun. While lock tite is optional it is positive assurance that nothing is coming loose. I use locktite red #277, it's labeled as permanent but it is not. If you do choose to use lock tite, be sure to thouroughly clean the threads of the bolts/screws and the threaded counterparts with some sort of degreaser or the application is pointless. Over 4000rnds now, not a single loose screw.

By the way the AE is hotter than pmc by about 85fps out of my gun. I also noted that turning the gas up to #2 also lowered velocity by 30fps.

Next point that I have is to use very tiny amounts of very thin lube on the hammer pivot. I damn near did some scientific research on this after blanking primers as a result of using a heavy oil that slowed the hammer down due to viscous drag. I use triflow on the hammer and Lukas 15-40 everywhere else.
